Can anybody clarify the theme? I mean, I have no idea what's going on anymore. I understand that it was kinda supposed to be a Mad Max type thing at the start. Y'know, pure apocalpytic stuff. But then there were big corporations like Dakirion and Shadowfax and Kilmor. Also dragons and water-breathing people that used to be genetically engineered, but are now born that way. Then magick got coded, and became the favourite method for head-busting and non-combat posing. Then suddenly, it was cool to be a faerie? I never really followed the faerie thing very well, but I gather they live in a faerie world, and are more often than not mages. Ummm, There were gonna be aliens for a while, but aside from one character who hasn't logged on for a while, I don't think the Ixitar ever really got pursued. Maybe they got chased away by Unicorns that slipped over from the faerie world. Also, is it magic or magick? And is it fae or fey? I was corrected very politely on the yay or nay, which turns out is yea not yay. Unless of course you're celebrating that you're not fae (or fey) in which case 'yay' is an acceptable reaction to a resounding 'nay'. Ok, spelling issues aside. I was just hoping someone could reiterate the theme. Especially since so much is not mentioned in game theme and we finally have some newbies who might be curious (or confused). I wanna be a corporate executive dragonrider who can breath underwater because I initially came from the faerie world where I met the alien who caused the apocalypse. -------------------------- Message 2243 from *ideas (#504): Date: Mon Jan 3 18:34:18 2005 CST From: Camber (#22034) To: *ideas (#504) Subject: re: $ Yak rambled in $: "I wanna be a corporate executive dragonrider who can breath underwater because I initially came from the faerie world where I met the alien who caused the apocalypse." And I wanna make said guy my bitch. In all seriousness though, theme clarification is a good point. It always seemed to me that Quinn's interest in the theme was post-apoc based, while Razorhawk's was ... I dunno, whatever it was. None of it made much sense to me while I was actively RPing, but I just went with it because I honestly didn't care all that much. The people made the game worth playing for me, not heavy concentration on theme. The development/progression of the rider class, the whole fae subplot (for which I wasn't even around yet), and all the other theme-altering plotlines and areas that were developed since the opening of the moo seemed to be player-driven more than theme-driven. Maybe a state of the union by the active admins is in order. Where we are, and where we're looking at going. Even though I'm no longer active in the RP scope of things, I still have a vested interest in the continued health and well-being of the MOO, and would be willing to contribute in whatever way I am capable. I prefer Fae, but I don't care how you spell it, as for them being part of the theme they have been since well before I ever logged in the first time. Dragons always seemed a bit to Anne McCaffery to me but my real objection to them over the years has been the setting them up as Examples of Good Roleplay, and then giving them a place to play most of the other players can't reach, how can they be examples to anyone when you can't even interact with them. Keep dragons killable by players. Allow regular players access to where the Riders live. And while we are talking about this, What's up with the Mechs? Actually, the only part Fae initially played in the Moo at all, was because of how the Wheel came about. There is a DOC out there that players weren't supposed to know about (Dunno why, ask RH) called Deep Magic. Now one of the players found it, read it and passed on the Info. The only Fae were Magus Kynwal, RH, Quinn and a few other GRAND Magi. The Grand Magi are the ones that 'saved' the world and Humanity. Somehow they are mixed into the three giant Corps also. Players were not to Play at Being Fae, There is no AD&D type people here. No trolls, no Elves, nothing of that kind. The 'Theme and the Corps were set down, how they are allowed to operate (Why DAK can only create non-human Recombs, why there is NO cloning Humans, etc) is very fundamental on how the Moo was set up. RH is a great enthusiast of McCaffery's Pern. Initially I would say there was alot of plagerism initially in the Dragons and the Class. Once I was able, the members of the class and I made quite a few changes. Changes happened several times as we attempted to streamline and create/recreate the class. Why the Mount. RH (again) created Mount Morlith for the class. When I first came to GW there were no Dragons. There was no actual class. I read about it in the Book that resides in the R/T Library. And boy is that book misinformed in many ways. Always was. And RH did that intentionally. Since the book was not written by a Rider or resident of the Mount, there was alot of misconceptions. But part of the knowledge of Dragons and Riders and Morlith and the people (real and NPC) that reside there was to DownLanders, misconception. Dragons are very close-nit, a huge extended family. They have the need to be with others of their kind, even before they became bonded, and that need continues after. Dragons are -more- intelligent than any creature living and they did not need Humans..But, they found that some of them liked the 'Small SoftOnes". So bondings happened. All this, too, is part of the Deep Magic. Okay, lost my track..Hope this answers some questions. The Dragonriders had the unfortunate stigma of being considered very elitist. Unfortunaely that's gonna cause disdain and people who aren't dragonriders, or have been deemed poor RPers by dragonriding standards are gonna be coming up with crackpot schemes on raiding the mount. >From past experience, I've noticed that us 'poor RPers' and 'immature twinks' get jealous and are generally stubborn compared to the 'good RPers'. It usually ends up with gun-toting bored people shooting any dragon or rider who sets foot off of the mount. 1) I think that Dragons should be allowed to attack and kill whoever their rider wants them to attack and kill. 2) I think that there should be a group of dragon riders other than that on Mount Morlith (not just undead ones, I mean actual dragons). 3) I think that the sky should NOT be the domain of dragonriders only. 4) I think that if everyone else has to ride a helicopter for 7 minutes to get to Jizo then a Dragonrider should have to fly for 7 minutes to get to Jizo. Waiting is boring. 5) I think that unilateral control of any one player class by a particular GM leaves too much potential for wild accusations of exploitation and favourtism. 6) I think that 'dragonrider' should refer to what is essentially a beastmaster of a dragon (I know... no one can be a 'master' of a dragon). If dragons are so intelligent, you'd think they might live somewhere other than Morlith and therefore could meet a 'little soft person' in other situations. 7) I think that the whole thing about 'killing a dragon kills it forever' should be enforced or scrapped. I'm sorry but there is no reason to retconn someone shooting a dragon in the face simply because you don't understand how their character would ICly do that. These are just stupid ideas, and some of them are probably blatantly wrong.
