Flames and QOOC weren't necessary either, except to keep the flames and qooc's off of *Chat. And since this is a MOO of free speech, there's nothing you can do to stop folks from posting songs to *Chat or *Flames. Most you can do is simply skip over the offending post. Having a subsection called *songs would be excellent for two reasons. 1) It would allow those who want to read them the ability to do so. No offense, but like *qooc and *flame some people don't want to read them all. Creating such a sub allows those who wish to read the enlightening songs such an ability, and those like Nomar to not. 2) Perhaps more songs would be posted. We could carry quite a collection, and albiet it is a social function if I've ever read one, it would be benificial for some. Think of it like poetry. I mean, the songs put in *chat and *flame have risen. Anyone can see that. My two songs. (wow.. Nomar actually made sense ;) ) C. -------------------------- Message 182 from *ideas (#504): Date: Thu Sep 11 20:24:29 1997 CDT From: Eponine (#3791) To: *ideas (#504) Subject: Other mailing lists. I made *flames and *qooc because folks were threatening to unsubsubscribe to *Chat. *Chat is a fully public mailing list, created and maintained by Quinn. *Flames and *qooc are not, they are more private, created and maintained by me so folks can remain subscribed to *Chat and not have to be subscribed to *flames or *qooc. *Chat is supposed to be OOC talk about IC issues, at least that was the original purpose for it, it's gotten away from that slightly. Many people post to *Chat about important issues that I'd hate for folks to miss because they unsubscribed to it due to the number of qooc's or flames they got sick of seeing. Making *songs is taking this a bit far, in my opinion. What next? Is everyone going to get offended by seeing posts about lightbulbs and insist on a *lightbulbs list too? I've already got enough of my quota expended on *flames and *qooc, I'm not making another one for this too. If another tek or geo chooses to, that's fine. Especially for when we are going to have more non-combative spells. Perhaps you could switch spells up into categories, and allow a certain number of each depending on alignment? And then make the same number of utility spells for each type of mage.. -------------------------- Message 192 from *ideas (#504): Date: Sun Sep 14 20:33:04 1997 CDT From: Rathe (#14172) To: *ideas (#504) Subject: Fist parrying Should cause damage if your trying to parry a sword *chuckle* -------------------------- Message 193 from *ideas (#504): Date: Sun Sep 14 20:38:35 1997 CDT From: Rathe (#14172) To: *ideas (#504) and *mages (#11664) Subject: Spells Spell parrying.. Instead of failure, the ability to stop a spell in mid-cast ;) Ex.: Toraxyn raises his hands to the sky, as if to summon some great force. The wind begins to pick up slightly, and he shouts, thrusting his arms out in front of him. He shouts, 'ThermoBlast!!' Rathe raises his hand, and speaks a word of power. As quickly as the winds picked up, they immediately die down again. Rationale? Its annoying to get damage and ins every time you fail against someone else.. Besides, it looks damn cool to deflect someone else's spell ;) --Rathe --------------------------
