Previously to a year ago, Citadels were 5000 crystals, and 10 advantage points for two rooms. Since quota is no longer a concern, I thought since some people are giving me the run around this would be the better forum for this discussion. Keeping in mind that apartments and the like are much cheaper, and we're no longer quota starved and there is a general sense of destitution with the current player base I'd like to see custom housing made more readily available for groups, and others who wish more of a communal living style. So what I'd like to see is three discussions. 1> Limit of rooms per character, is it 2 or unlimited. 2> Cost of single player citadel. 3> Cost of group based citadel, freely open to groups of people 3 or more. I could understand a higher cost if said DM was in truth 'designing' the area, but given that most players wish to do building on their own it shouldn't be a problem. -------------------------- Message 9722 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Sat May 7 21:04:19 2005 EDT From: Yak (#20718) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: Spoofters vs Game Integrity: Round 372. I would love to know why we allow potential to be gained by a few individuals who stay hidden and logged on 24 hours a day so that they can boost themselves in @chargen up to 400 bladed, or 374 claw. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems that potential was supposed to be utilized as an RP stimulant and an alternative to those who weren't inclined to spend their precious time smacking around a mini-rex to boost. I'm not trying to single out the people who have ridiculous bladed and claw, moreso the people who are gaining from the coded aspects of potential without giving anything back to the MOO environment. I'm all for people being rewarded for their IC non-combat interaction. But setting up a tick-timer that says '@spoof I'm a lazy bastard to me' isn't exactly encouraging other players to join you in your tent and type '@spoof Yes you fucking are.' If anything it's a deterrent to those who can't leave their character logged on all day to exploit something in a way it was not intended to be exploited. I know it's considered legal by Quinn, and I'm not contesting whether or not these people are cheating because I understand they're not. But anyone who would debate the merits of @spoofting only on the fact that it's not illegal is completely missing the point. We should be trying to promote an environment where IC interaction is promoted, not stat-mongering. As we all know, very little progress is made on this MOO with regards to policy change. So instead of having false hopes that Quinn will change the way lazy people get stats, I am pleading with the people who abuse spoofting to step up their moral integrity and act like someone who cares more about this place than how high their bladed is. If not I'd like to OOCly point out now that if I catch you spoofting in public, or catch you spoofting with your tent not locked up, I will PK you. And furthermore I challenge any GM to @jail me for saying this because I know it's illegal to PK based on OOC information and OOC reasons... But really - who's hurting the moo more? All the areas should have some for those that like to boost and crystal hunt, each area being a different skill area. ACtually, what I would love to see is beasties in the walled wastes between the level of the Jizo ones and the the N'Orleans ones. That would give newer places more area to collect crystals and not have to count on noone getting em all and leaving slim pickings. (Please, no slisssh, they dirtied up the wastes.) I hope I can clarify and correct the information. The past cost of one (1) room was 5K (5,000) Crystals, two (2) rooms was 10K (10,000). There was also a cost of five Character Points (5CP) per room. There was a limit of two (2) rooms per Character. If two or more characters were building together the cost per room remained the same as di the number of rooms allowed. If the Character(s) was building a school or a group project, then more rooms, beyond the two rooms per character, might be allowed on the Merit of the area being built. The cost remained the same, five (5) Crystals per room. A Citadel is two (2) rooms. So the CP cost was ten Character Points (10 CP's) on the .sheet. That has not been consistantly done in a while, but that is what Quinn had originally set down. BTW, even thought the Server the Moo is on is larger, faster and has more storage area, this does -not- mean we are able to use all the Quota we wish. We are still constrained to be careful of what we use. As of this date, the rules are the same. It was intended as an RP device, as you point out, and I think the use of triggers to gain it was accepted back then because there was a vocal contingent who complained that you could never get anywhere statwise on this MOO since there were players who had 5+ years of sparmonkeying under their belts, 1000+ in their stats, which would take years for a new player to catch up to. This is also the same reason why there was the 'recent' stat reset/leveling; to make it easier on the new player and close the stat gap. However, with the potential system, triggers and the circle-jerking @praises still in effect, all it does it have the system cater to the abusers. The whole *point* of the reset as was communicated to us was to make things more even, and fair. Within a few weeks, people had 400 in certain stats because they had saved pot points. Sounds fair to me! I am sad to say, Yak, that morals don't seem to exist here for the majority, and that for all their cries of 'The stat system is unfair! This game shouldn't be based around stats!' that I heard pre-leveling, the 'new regime' has certainly flip-flopped now that they're in the driver's seat. Look at post 9728 on *Chat, if you need any further convincing. A GM endorsing a shady method of gaining potential points because it's legal until someone says it's not. I don't want you gone, H - I just want someone to take a stand. Until then, kiddies, remember - do anything and everything to get ahead, however questionable. I'm disgusted to note that people defend pot-spoofting based on the fact that Quinn didn't say it was illegal. It's that sort of complacent attitude that will cause the downfall of Ghostwheel because everyone is too happy exploiting the flaws in our system, and refuses to step up and try to better the MOO as a whole. Can anyone honestly tell me that they think the spoofting-method of potential gaining is truly justified? Yeah, it's allowed. But it's ridiculous. And rather than say 'Until Quinn himself becomes unidle and decides to care about the MOO I'm gonna do what I can for me.' I'd like to see some people show what they're really made of and try to work towards a better Ghostwheel. I hate to break it to everyone, but we can't expect Quinn to hold our hands and read *chat. He probably is oblivious to what spoofting is doing to the stat system which he recently stated should have VERY FEW PLAYERS WITH STATS OVER 100. When people try to justify spoofting for me, I have yet to hear one selfless excuse. Instead I'm bombarded with, I have to do what I can to fight the PKs (the two primary PKs of whom I know for a fact do not even spooft). Then people say that they have to spoof to catch up to ther people who are older than them... Well, I'm no mathmetician, but if you spooft all day for 8 potential, I'm pretty sure the old people just got the same 8 potential. Sure, the stats taper off after a while, but does that mean we should just two-tier the system so that spoofters are one level and everyone else is a different one? Lead by example and start looking further than your own magical katana. Or, at the very least explain to me why spoofting is good and I'll be happy to quiet down. In fact I will personally apologize to the people I have killed if they can explain to me how their spoofting is good for the MOO, and doesn't frustrate newbies who realize that they not only have to spar all day, but also leave their character connected and intermittently spamming themselves in order to be arithmetically and perpetually worse than the rest of us. -------------------------- Message 9732 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Mon May 9 22:31:32 2005 EDT From: Augustus (#18463) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: re: $ I think Quinn was on some kind of narcotic when or if he said such a thing. And given some of the chatter on this *list in the last couple of days it looks like at least some people agree with you. The major issue I have is not your ideas, but how you're trying to ENFORCE them on others. I know you're frustrated with the lack of Wizardly intervention, the loopholes in rule and policy, and the gap between what you see as the spirit and the letter in the 'law'. But if you want to win people to your way of thinking and effect change in MOO policy, going around killing relative newbies for OOC reasons seems like just about the worst way to go about it. Killing new players who are just doing what they've been told is the best way to build up their characters is not 'working towards a better Ghostwheel'. It's stirring up a ruckus and alienating people, it's a way for you to express your anger and then point at *chat and go 'Look, at least I caused a discussion of the issue', but it's not going to make Ghost a better place. If anything it seems to thus far have been bringing RP and IC activity to a near-halt as people try to decide whether they're on the hit list and whether it's worth going out their front doors and risk being ICly shot for OOC reasons or just to stay huddled inside and wait for things to blow over. If you want to change things, how about campaigning to get a petition/voting system over here like a smaller scale one of the one on Lambda? You know, get a GM to 'sponsor' a vote, then it goes up as a coded petition (the engine already exists elsemoo, I bet it could port in easily) and everybody's got a month to weigh in on whether to eliminate the potential system, or change how @praise works, or anything else. It's maybe not as immediately gratifying as shooting people, but I think it has a better chance of actually causing a change in behavior. It sounds to me like you're trying to make a plea for self-governance--that people make a civil agreement to behave in certain ways for the greater good. But 'civil' has several definitions. There are lots of ways of working to improve 'the system' that don't involve beating the crap out of people who are behaving in ways of which you don't personally approve. Change is good. Terrorizing people who disagree with you is bad. But I still feel a need to give my opinion. Spoofing, the topic of debate for awhile now. Seem's there is no clear group opinion on if it's right or not. The basic ideal of it is to sit in your tent, a hidden place, or something of that nature, just to pick up pot points. It was my view on it at the beginning that Pot was supposed to be used to build up your character. Perhap's they have been practicing with that bladed everyone so loves? Well then they should get stronger in it. But it seem's that people are, with spoofing, just trying to power-monger their way to the top. I can see the problem with spoofing. People who have been around a short time jumping up there to become stat gods. People who do nothing at all, barely online, being that way. But then it does kind of boil down, as Yak said, to is it helping the community any. I also agree with the relation between praising yourself and spoofing. Hey, why bother waiting for the points? Why not just get on, praise myself for two points, then I have no reason to spoof for the day! Oh my god, that's genius! But, then again, I also kind of agree with Heretic and Rill's arguement. Sure, spoofing is not a good thing for the community. People focus more on stats then they do on RP, it kind of hurt's a bit. But running around shooting the people who were taught to do it does not help the problem. It just makes them want to be stronger, to do it more, so they can come back and get revenge later. I do not really see how it's helping the problem by making people want to spoof. If you want to get some change, go with the idea of majority vote or petition. Ask Quinn to remove the pot system and make it work by training. Though people who do not fight, who boost: Tinker, Hacker, and all of those might have trouble with that. That's my opinion, not sure what else to add. It's stupid, the players who abuse it won't care, they don't see it as a problem. If you're smart, just don't stoop to their level. No matter what system is in place they'll find the best way to abuse things like this. All you can do is choose to do it or not, I personally chose not to and my characters are all still pathetic. -------------------------- Message 9750 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Tue May 10 18:49:58 2005 EDT From: Matt (#24497) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: Camber Poofter + spoofer = spoofter Brilliant, isn't it? -------------------------- Message 9751 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Tue May 10 20:31:25 2005 EDT From: Yalindra (#13170) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: Idling for pot The last point I will add on this issue is the following: Back as far as when there was only the sparring system, you can get the clear impression that Quinn's vision for character advancement was - more time spent online, doing game-related things gets you further ahead. To an extent, you can also see that with the early pot system prior to the discovery of spoofing/idling for pot - the more people you have IC in one room interacting, the greater the benefit. So, why on earth would a system be intended that rewards those with constant connections and a program with the ability to run commands on a timer in order to gain pot while the player is not at their keyboard? Think back to when the combat delay was added. Why was this done? Because people with slower connections/reflexes wouldn't have the time to react to a player who was OOCly a faster typer, had a faster connection, or had a program that would type 'kill Dante's head' when you pressed F2 as fast as humanly possible. In my opinion, one of two things has to change. Either it's the mentality that time spent at your keyboard doing IC-related stuff is what gets you ahead, or it's the mentality of who has the most programs and cunning to exploit a system to its fullest gets ahead. In response to the statement someone quoted about spoofing/idling for pot being needed to catch all the oldbies...well, I can personally refute that. The 9 years I spent building this character's stats were completely washed away with the combination of a leveling and idling for potential points. Kind of makes it hard to RP a warrior-type character. So really only the point about keeping up with the other spoofers is valid. Finally, in an effort to make this post constructive in at least some form, I offer the following suggestion: If everyone's supposed to be idling 24/7 for their 7 potential points a day that will allow them to 'cap' one stat in two weeks, why not just save on everyone's internet and power bill and just give you 7 potential points every day for connecting? Then maybe people will leave their spoofing tents. -------------------------- Message 9752 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Tue May 10 20:34:25 2005 EDT From: FoxFire (#22153) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: *grins* Not to change the subject, but I really like the 'kill Dante's head' part. :> Good form, good form. -------------------------- Message 9753 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Wed May 11 21:59:42 2005 EDT From: The_Disciple_of_Spoof (#20718) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: Seriously I wasn't trying to ask a rhetorical question. If you hunt with your mech, leave the crystals. it's rather an unfair advantage to be safe inside a nigh invicible mech (atleast against cainids and chim) and to farm crystals. Boosting has also been disabled on the mechs, so they won't get any better from hunting and attacking. I'll be looking through the stats of the mechs and lowering them back to the levels they were first set to. Any mech seen in the tunnels will be subsequently recycled and the owner jailed. I'll eventually be lightening quota around enough to put some creatures in the firezone, so the mechs will actually have something on their turf to fight/hunt. I've been a witness and participant to several events that you out there must know about. None of this is made up...there is proof. first case....Heretic planted a bunch of non repped items around the moo some four to six months ago....these were hidden in the spirit of a scavenger hunt and there were open to all the peoples of the moo... But what you didn't know, was that 'chaaya' a.k.a. one of Rill's many alts....was traveling around with me, 'finding items....including several bows flashbangs and yes. even kastovaldir my long sword..I found out later, on a night I was ready to quit this game in my out explosive temper, that I was guided to these items puposefully, that Rill's alt knew exactly where everything had been hidden....you must ask yourselves was this fair? no. Was I part of it? yes...even unwittingly. But alas, i am guilty too, becuase I kept these items and I didn't say anything.. case 2 There is in some circles, a little known dagger called the black rose. the intent of this dagger is exceptional in two ways. firstly, it way be only wielded by a woman, and secondly, that after killing 7 or 10 people, i cant remember, the dagger takes you to a room with a pool of blood that jacks your endurance up to 103. Interestingly, the first person I saw with this dagger was laurent...and even more interestingly the first woman I saw get it was Chaaya. Oh did I mention that Laurent is also another alt of Rill's? even more to the point....she knew what the dagger did and played dumb...so I had the idea to test it. i brought out one of my own alts and had chaaya kill him 10 times...sending her to the room and instantly jacking her endurance up to 103. Again in this situation I am not innocent...When Chaaya returned from the chamber we did it again, only on the tenth time I slept and she piggybacked me in there....giving me the same benefit that was ic'ly impossible. I cheated. yes. But I was not jailed, mostly because Heretic knew that Chaaya was the one with the dagger, and two she was involved. This shows favoritism among other things. YOu would think that our stats would have been busted down for cheating...again the answer is no. though in my own ability to die, i managed to work my own endurance back down to 87. ladies and gentleman these are just two of the situations that I've been privy to. And while I am sure there are more, I don't think it necessary to continue. You see. This game has been corrupted by 2 people who share between them a staggering number of alts. Who use their stonger char's like mirg and owen to collect massive crystals amounts to make their other char's stronger. Who pretent to inforce the rules while manipulating a system. And they can do it, and will probably get away with it, becuase one of them is a GM. And there's no one to stop this maddness. While I do not know what will happen to me becuase of this pose I can assure you of one thing...that If I decided to stay here, I will never be party to such things again. Actually, there is one more thing...that I feel the need to bring to light. there were a large amount of fake crystals denoted by their green color that were created as a ransom for ther Dakirion plot. There were supposedly worthless. But due to a tip from rill, I discovered that there was a bug with the replicator. while you couldn't eat these crystals, they still worked in the replicator. Again I was given this tip from Rill in order to give me an advantage over the rest of the game. Ladies and gentleman. I am just as guilty of these crimes as they are. And it is true that I am writing all of this out of spite for the betrayal of my trust...but that does not change the fact that these events happened...and that does not change the fact that there is proof....I will let you decide for yourselves, and if this post gets deleted, you will find it again and and again because I will keep posting...and I am also sending a copy directly to quinnn.. thank you for your time... -------------------------- Message 9790 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Sun May 22 18:55:54 2005 EDT From: Rill (#37114) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: Announcement I would like to make the following announcement: I, Rill/Owen/Ydhana/Laurent/Haven, am the single most corrupting force that GhostWheel MOO has ever known. You still need to be able to get away from them. ANd when you have them following, but not hitting ya, cuz you are ooc, you end up with many more to get away from. As for being ooc, you cna't hit nor defend anyone while ooc. SO I dont see how that is an advantage. Just my 2 cents. -------------------------- Message 9812 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Sun May 29 22:44:58 2005 EDT From: Heretic (#6143) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: OOC among the Slisssh Being OOC in the slisssh tunnels, I can't fix it I've reported it to bugs in the past and Quinn never fixed it. CHEECH IS NOT MY ALT. As for being OOC down in the Slissh Pits. I am not able to attack, defend, heal, and/or lure because I have no aggro focused at me on this moment. I've tried to lure, there is none, so I'm basically useless. If anything I'm a distraction due to the fact that I'm talking to them. I'm fucking bored. So I found a way to fix it. Now if I were OOC, unable to be hit, and attacking, hell yeah it would be cheating. But I'm not. I'm watching and talking to them because nothing of intereast was happening for me. Thanks. The mini-rex are easier to fight. The mini-raptors take a bit more to go down and thus give more damage. Watch your endurance too. When able, keep boosting that with pot or crystals and it helps with the skills. Once you start getting zero crystals from the mini's it is time to move on up to N'Orleans. There is still the cemetery to fight in. The creator of the zombies and voodoo dolls and half the swamp was recycled. But at average shock and dodge, you can fight here. THe sheol ravens are the easiest to take out. Then the grave dancers and ratllecobras. But watch the worms. They like to spawn near Lake Prospect and the second time you come across them they are aggressive. ALl said and done, if you kill every creature once you will yield 99 crystals. But you can always go again! And oh yes, the worms like to eat crystals laying around and sometimes even pick up stuff. So watch it. THe Grave Dancers also still carry disease, so you will want to remember where the cure is. NEXT POST: New places to fight! The next place to go, when you are a bit over average is the Wheel. Lots there to go after, but remember that the cainids hatge everyone and will fight whether you have hit them or not. THey also like to spawn in packs, so beware near the Green Sands area. The Srillian is impossible to beat, so dont try. The Chimera is cool, but if you arent in the 80-90 skill level or have a good endurance, dont try it. ALso, once you kill him, he is a real bastard and keeps finding YOU. IF you last an hour or so, you can get upwards of 500 crystals on the Wheel. Oh, and the rous just love to pick up stuff, so look once you kick em. Alot of good stuff has been found that way. -------------------------- Message 9825 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Mon May 30 12:22:44 2005 EDT From: Shandryl (#24740) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: creatures 2 Dixie is a good place to go for getting stuff. The cougarites are alot like cainids, so be careful. They love to fight in packs. The mountain wolfs are about as strong as worms. If you are over average and paying attention, you can get some good crystals there. THere is a gator there, he is fun, and he guards not one, but two hidden areas. Have fun! Lost weapons turn up in those areas too. Shadowbrook has mutant scorpions. They arent toooo dangerous if you are over average, and they yield 10 crystals a pop. It is a bit boring there, but you can earn a bunch in a short time and not die. There is also a hidden area there, too. Wolf Moon Valley has those pesky wolves. But again, it is a place for those average or better and is fun to traverse. Hidden areas abound there. There is a fountain there too. Oil Rig Sigma has only 2 creatures, both easy to kill, but hard to realize they are there. Not much goes on, but if you are looking for seeded itens, that could be a good place. Wardens Island is good for all but newbies. The prisoners are easy, but the guards tend to take offense and get aggressive. Toosay, Woods Hole, The Wastes, and New Genesis are good places to make homes, but not much goes on there. New genesis still has a few robot types, but they are damn mean. Nice to pick on if you are bored, but be ready to die until you figure them out. The place has alot of hidden mazes for fun and reading. ALso alot of history is there if you know where to find it. Austin inst worth the typing it takes to get there. Only two rooms. The NAP and undersea transport are nice for exploring, there is even a Rep there, but watch out you dont drown. Last, but not least of course is the R/T tunnels. The slisssh are nice near the top. Mostly you werent the last to kill them, so they are easy to get. Slisssh have long memories, though, and they love to swarm and pick up wepoans. If you get past the glimmermotes, you can do ok near the top. Once you get to the heart of the tunnels though, you never know what you are going walk into. Even those with max in endurance, shock, and dodge can get real damage. And If you dont read your screen, you can die in a hit. (ask me!). There is alot of strategies you can use in fighting them, just never take your eyes off them! If you can find one of the two steel keys that open the tunnels and lead to the sewers beneath the pits, there is some good exploring there. Another rep too! IF you are at the End of the Line and can live long enough to go down, you will soon come across another rep. This one has a nice item in it. Good Hunting!!! -------------------------- Message 9826 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Mon May 30 21:09:36 2005 EDT From: Shandryl (#24740) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: subbies An are I forgot to mention was the Ocean. IT is chuck full of creatures to fight at all levels of training. Few go after you without hitting and there are numerous wonderful places to explore. If you arent a subbie, then see someone to buy a mask and air cartridge so you dont drown. The ocean is by far the most serene place to get crystals. And you can pick up seastones too! So I stopped doing the wrong thing and started doing the right thing. I actually went so far as to quit the place after they fired my friend for no reason at all other than he pissed off the bosses son. So we move on in life. Quinn might of said it is ok to use these timers but Quinn isn't here and he either does not care of the disadvantage to the whole or does not realize it to the full extent. Either way it is a wrong and doing it because it was said ok does not make it right. And yes I have made mistakes in my life and I do try to learn from them and move on. Hope this helps. As far as using my character to kill for ooc reasons, I talk a better game then I play, I hardly ever kill for ic reasons, so I doubt very much that anyone has anything to worry about. Since crystals are pretty much only used to raise atts or buy cool weapons, then it seems that all this cheating is so you can be tough and kill lots of people. Pretty sure the only ones out here actually killing you fuckers regularly are people who arent cheating, so start killing us 10 times a day or put your pot into tailor and make yourself useful. The point im trying to get across here is that your focus's and bladed's are all rising at the same rate, and I dont see anyone doing anything with it.
