Just for the record: I'm independent. I took care to make certain that my voter's registration was updated after I got married and moved, and I will be voting in this election. I made up my mind about 4 months ago, and I support my candidate publicly. [Ralph Nader] I'm involved in the political system. My husband works for a paltry wage, and so do I. I'm an ugly, mousy little girl who spends too much time reading fantasy and logged into the web -- however a lot of that web time goes toward online political activism. I don't think that Clayson has any room to call anyone "white trash", and she certainly doesn't look like the intellectual pinnacle of American society when she proclaims that if I, or anyone else here, fails to vote for the GOP ticket, we are all just begging the government to destroy our constitutional rights (specifically those granted by the 2d Amendment) and is begging for a slow, painful, government induced death. Please. Both major-party candidates are for abridgement of first amendment rights (just listen to Gore discussing "cultural pollution" and Bush decrying "big Hollywood"), and that's just the tip of the iceberg. There are a lot of candidates out there, and many of them are on the ballots in various states. You can check out a lot of this sort of information at www.speakout.com, or on any number of other websites. You can vote Democrat, Republican, Green Party, Libertarian, Reform Party, Natural Law Party, or even Socialist. You have a universe of choices. I agree with Clayson on one point & one point alone: That people who are of age should register & vote. However, this is America, and if you choose to express yourself by staying away from the polls next month, you'll be one of a very vocal group of non-voters who are serving to illustrate our society's state of mind. I would like to say I prefer the French election system to the US one. It's usually a 2 rounds event: first round with all the candidates, there are the usual big names but also tons of independants. The first round usually give a good snapshot of people opinions. The second round is between the two candidates who got most votes during the first round. It's nice because you can vote for whoever you feel like without feeling you are indirectly supporting a candidate you don't like at all (e.g. people who would like to vote Nader but feel that by doing so they would give a vote to Bush.) On a last note: I wish we had a Nader-minded candidate in Canada, I would happily vote for him. I hope Nader will do well at the coming elections, even if polls claim he has no chance of winning. -------------------------- Message 8478 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Tue Oct 10 01:29:48 2000 EDT From: Raichu (#3791) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: *poetry Is back. -------------------------- Message 8479 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Wed Oct 11 21:06:16 2000 EDT From: Shinji (#25135) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: A message of love and hope to Ghostwheel http://www.amishrakefight.org/gfy/ -------------------------- Message 8480 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Wed Oct 11 21:30:14 2000 EDT From: Shinji (#25135) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: fucked up www.nineinchnails.net download the broken video it's so deranged -------------------------- Message 8481 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Thu Oct 12 13:06:35 2000 EDT From: Sterno (#21938) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: Last 46 posts, give or take a few. For one thing they will try to push through their socialist medical plan again and they will try their hardest to take Article 2 of your Bill of Rights away. This might not matter to you now, but I suggest you talk to some of the snowbirds that travel from Canada to the US..ask them how they view their medical coverage. Then ask them where they are getting their heart transplants, their kidney transplants, and their medicine. In the US you can still chose your doctor. Think about that. And here, you can still own a handgun to protect your self. Not from the criminal, not from the drugged up assholes, but from YOUR government. I suggest you read US history, do you know how long it took the US to get ready to fight in WWII. At that time a demarcate was in office too. He cut military funds, just like all democrats. If this country had the funding, the military...well, I think you can figure it out. If you are worried about Bush and his words or thoughts against woman and their rights, you have nothing to worry about. Women are not going to lose anything under a Republican Party. There are way to many of us, and we are very strong in the political movement. There is no way in hell we are going to move backwards. Ever.
