I won't be around for about a week & a half -- Nick & I are getting married on Saturday, and we'll be in France for about a week following. :) Just in case anyone gets to wondering where I've been (as if you would). That's the story. Next week, I will be hosting a plot. It's open to anybody who wishes to participate and don't worry about your stats because there won't be any combat. The general outline is a scavenger hunt in a newly built area of the MOO. How long it takes will depend on how clever and thorough everyone is, but it's only meant for one night (or afternoon). If you're interested, please send me @mail (no pages). Also, let me know when you can participate. I will leave any time from Monday the 15th until the following weekend as open game. Some people have tight schedules, so I'll go with the one that accomodates the most people. If you do give me a timetable to work from, don't forget your timezone so I don't screw you by mistake. There may or may not be rewards given for participating in this TP. Regardless, I'd hope being given the chance to be in an organized plot would be reward enough. We can all dream. -------------------------- Message 8221 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Thu May 11 20:37:29 2000 EDT From: Clayson (#17237) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: Oh boy ;) I love scavenger hunts, can we do it at night? -------------------------- Message 8222 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Fri May 12 06:20:36 2000 EDT From: DragonBabe (#5288) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: Temple I am asking any player that has RP'd with Temple (Cobra Recomb) to please moo-mail me (NO PAGES, PLEASE!) with what they remember about RP with her or what was rumour. Well, Nick & I were married on May 6, and everything went precisely as planned. It was -wonderful-. Thanks to all of those who sent their best wishes to us, both before & during my absence. :) We honeymooned on the French Riviera -- in Nice, to be specific -- and we had a fantastic time. By the time vacation was over, though, we both missed our friends, and our home... I've been up now for almost 23 hours (we got up to catch the plane at 4a France-time, which was about 10p EST. It's currently 9p EST!) I'm exhausted and scattered, but very happy. I missed GW. It was SO NICE to come back to all of these great posts, and feel at home again. :) I'll probably be around some tomorrow, and off & on all week as we settle in to our new place, get back to work, etc. And although I'm sort of waiting for them to deliver our late luggage (bah!) I think it's off to sleep for me! See you all later... - Jess -------------------------- Message 8225 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Mon May 15 17:16:27 2000 EDT From: Fortitude (#24841) To: *rp (#22597) and *Chat (#5391) Subject: Update I've decided on a tentative date and time for my plot. Once the plot has progressed past a certain point (about 10 minutes after it starts), I can't admit any new players. What do you folks think of such a change? It might mean a better chance for newbies assaulted with queued actions, giving them a chance to fight back, and give a more turn-based flavor to the game. Thoughts? -------------------------- Message 8232 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Sat May 27 05:45:53 2000 EDT From: Skywalker (#6644) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: re: combat pauses The wording seems a bit awkward to me but from what I understand, it sounds like an interesting experiment. I'm not sure it would be good as a permanent measure, but I wouldn't mind a change to see what it's like. It sounds like it would add extra time to sparring and hunting, which probably isn't very good for people who like to do those things. But there are times when a slowdown in combat can be welcome. I remember when the MOO used to be constantly lagged and that meant that battles wouldn't be over in five seconds like they can be now. It added an element of suspense, especially when you were going up against something that you weren't sure you could beat (like the Chim or RSU's) and it also meant the action would last a bit longer in combat-oriented tinyplots. As for player-player battles, it would be like forcing people to use the 'rounds' system of combat to an extent, but there's still flexibility (check out the nicely written book in the R/T Library if you don't know what I mean by using rounds in that context). In my own little world, people would be nice and fair so they'd use rounds all the time. This might be a small step in that general direction, or it could just be a nuisance to people who come here to spar, fight, and log off. As I said earlier, I wouldn't mind testing it out first. -------------------------- Message 8233 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Sat May 27 12:03:38 2000 EDT From: Dante (#10660) To: *Chat (#5391) if we get combat pauses then we need coded fleeing based on stats also. Either that or refine 'follow' so that the follower's exit through a room is called first, hence making it so someone cannot just 'lose ' or go n n n n n n n n n n n n and they get away. -------------------------- Message 8234 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Sat May 27 13:07:02 2000 EDT From: Quinn (#2) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: combat pauses If an action is queued, there is no pause. NPC automatically queue actions, so they should always be ready to go. With pauses we'll have less instances of a person entering a room and being flooded with attacks before they can type an attack themselves, and possibly more chance for strategy, giving someone up to 60 seconds to think about what they want to do. (Most people will probably continue to queue multiple actions as normal.) I don't get your fleeing comment, Dante. If you're interested in living onboard a magical ghost ship that sails around undersea, please @send me some mail. The only requirements are that you have enough quota for your cabin, two doors, and a key, and that you have some IC way of getting on and off the ship (i.e. you have a diving mask and air carts, or you've got gills). It'll cost you nothing but quota. --------------------------
