And there are drugs and therapies that can slow your metabolism and increase your body's ability to intake nutrients that might just make you able to gain weight. Depending on circumstances, which I will admid I don't know, there are ways that the medical community could fix a good deal of problems with weight. Most are expensive, and the most popular ones are invented by idiots who are out for your money, but if you were to talk to a biology or physiology professor about metabolism and certain other biological problems, also detailing what your diet is, what drugs and substances you're currently taking, and your activity cycles and rates, you could probably find a way to fix that. Although I've found sloth to be the most effective way to gain weight, period. Just sit constantly and do absolutely nothing, and eat near constantly. I've found that when you never move exept to eat, it's actually very hard to LOSE weight. -------------------------- Message 7902 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Thu Jan 6 21:48:33 2000 EST From: Rand (#9865) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: Overweight... I wish it were that way, Karma. I have talked to characters that were gone several months and logged in and found everything gone, crystal and weapons. As for public warning of the MOOniverse, Famine was taken from Yna while he was actively on the MOO with absolutely NO warning. I realize that issue has been settled. However I have been warned by GMs that GMs will reap crystal hoards. Your character had 200k on her? Did you ever stop to think it may be your bit that kept it there? I didn't write the original post to piss anybody off or create a furor or fight. I seriously wanted to KNOW about this issue. I had been warned of the possibility and I wanted to know if there was a limit beyond which I shouldn't go. I was told after I posted that I was going to piss GMs off and I was confused as to why when the way it was presented to me it was/is a common practice. I had already accepted it. Bear in mind, someone can still steal the entire bag if they loot you. A few things to keep in mind: -- There's a longstanding debate over what happens with a locked bag that's been taken. Codewise, no one can get into it. Realism always leaves that open to debate, and it sometimes turns into confusion. (If it's a simple cloth bag, for example, there's not many reasons that someone shouldn't be able to cut it open, though the code doesn't allow it at this time.) -- Keep containers realistically messaged. Bish isn't kidding when he said we've found chainsaws in loaves of bread, tridents in changepurses, etc. Every once in a while, a GM asks Quinn if they can review containers. If permitted, it's posted publicly, and sometimes people are warned individually if they have an `offending item' before action is taken. (Action generally means the collected items get scattered all over the MOO for any players to pick up.) -- Whatever is decided about if the bag can be gotten into or not (I personally don't remember any rulings either way on this one), nothing can be moved back, even generic items like daggers or clothing. I generally take out only what I expect to need. The rest is kept in a trunk in my home. If your room is locked, and the home-base trunk is locked, setting the @locked_down trunk and @olocked_down trunk msgs isn't a bad idea, if it's realistic. You could have it `bolted to the floor', `built into a wall', etc. That prevents any visitors to your room from picking up the container there. There's no current or legal way to lock a container to your person, however. (I did have a number of things somehow taken by a player from a locked, locked-down trunk in a locked room once, however, so nothing is foolproof. No one has a clue how it happened, even two years later.) The only basic threat is looting, which can happen at any time, to anyone, by anyone. -------------------------- Message 7961 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Thu Jan 20 09:11:51 2000 EST From: Clayson (#17237) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: Containers and Locks I think you should be able to open containers that do not belong to you, this whole lock thing on this moo sucks. Today, if Slayer started jumping on me, a group of people could get together, kill him half a dozen times, and he'd no longer be a major threat. My birthday rocked :> Denali took me out for dinner and we played trivia on the NTN Network. We have Player+ status so we got to rack up some points. We both made topten high scores for the month of January in different catagories :> (Check out http://www.ntn.com ) When we got home I had a package waiting for me that UPS had delivered. It was a present from my best friend (who I have been friends with for almost thirty years). She lives in Vancouver, Washington and she sent me an absolutely beautiful antique cameo necklace and two blocks of Tillamook cheese (just to make me homesick for the Pacific Northwest :) Denali gave me Catz 4 (we can't have pets where we live and my daughter has been keeping my RL kitty.) Denali knows how much I long for a kitty and I now have three virtual kittys to play with. They're so incredibly cute and lifelike I've caught myself talking to them like they're real cats :> My daughter is giving me an audio tape of The Wall by Pink Floyd so I can listen to it in the car :> But the very best present of all? My wonderful husband got a promotion at his job with a raise of almost a dollar an hour. I'm so incredibly proud of him. All in all this birthday has been one of the best I can ever remember. It was the love of my VR and RL friends and family that made it so. Thank you. -------------------------- Message 7982 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Sun Jan 30 10:46:09 2000 EST From: Janus (#3597) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: petition to port Quicktime Sign and forward (if you are inclined to do do) http://neutron.resnet.gatech.edu/qt-petition.html --------------------------
