I just had to use a medbay to heal Dante from 250 damage. Now, a few weeks ago, I could do it in one shot with my medkit and if it were a bit lower, I could do it without even needing that. My point is that if I'm having difficulties with healing, what about players with a lower medic? Flames don't have a home on this MOO. That has nothing to do with good, bad, right, wrong, etc. See, a flame is something done to deliberately insult someone. If you have a complaint, present facts. Pretty simple, and it gets your point across much better than a flurry of lackwit insults will. See, the problem with that is that you need -facts-, not assumptions or gossip or insults, though... ah well. I actually agree with one of Sater's points -- if by going through `proper channels', (talking to the people involved, asking other GMs, talking to Quinn,) gets no response after a while -- public discussion can be very helpful. However, bear in mind that just because the answer you get is something you don't like, that doesn't mean you should go ahead and try to flame the hell out of someone. A few facts: Every change to an NPC has to go through Quinn. This includes creating them, improving them, destroying them. Other non-GM players have been allowed to play NPCs. My meaning is this.. We deal with many differant people and differant egos.. Also there is a age differance and with that a preception differance.. Women are more inclined to be wordy I've noticed in their descriptive form and graces.. Where the Men are more action orientated.. Younger players focus on the game as things rather than accomplishments of actions. Some have differant back grounds or educations and that also brings out who their character is and how it is played.. In my head I've never been a good rp'er, but then somethings I think it is because I'm intimidated by others who seem to be.. Yet I feel that I can control the situation relitively well enough to play the game. Some lack that control or they don't see it as important yet... So those are my thoughts on it.. I think everyone should be given a chance though and taken as they are.. If you see someone who seems to just be darn right no good at rp.. I started with the Ultima series in 1982) and tabletop RP games for at least that long and I have never been put in this situation before. The whole purpose of any RPG game, if it's a playable game, is to get better then something or someone. This is not the case on this MOO. I am now in a situation where a rank newbie with no stats at all has just as much chance of killing me as I do them. I hear reasons that "It's closer to real life" and "It's dangerous out there." I said the system is not playable, to me, as a CRPG. There's a difference. And yes, the way the system is now a newbie COULD kill me. I've sparred newbies under the new system and taken the hits. I'm talking about playability. And it may take a new generation of players to convince you of that. What I am saying, is that for now at least, the system is unplayable for me and at least for computer generated RP, I'll go elsewhere. -------------------------- Message 5864 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Tue Jan 19 09:52:36 1999 EST From: Quinn (#2) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: crpg I've been playing since the eighties and Ultima, too, Tirafal. I'm talking about the computer generated aspects of the system: i.e. the combat between players and computer generated monsters. Actually, in the player to player arena, the system probably works. I don't know. I'm not a PKer and don't go where I can get PKed. Nor did I ever claim that I had such a confrontation with a newbie. We're talking at cross purposes here. Partly, I'm wondering if it doesn't have to do with the overall goals of the game. On the one hand, there seems to be a need for computer generated RP. On the other there seems to be an inherent hatred for it. People that come here to play the game for it's CRPG are called "sparmonkeys" and treated with a bit of disdain. Increasingly, the people who DO come here for that reason have found it harder and harder to do so as the stat changes have been implemented. I guess my feeling is, that if you want to discourage sparring and hunting, what is the purpose of even having a combat system? If you don't necessarily want to discourage this aspect of the game, why make it impossible to play? -------------------------- Message 5866 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Tue Jan 19 10:26:13 1999 EST From: Sterno (#21938) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: New System I didn't like it when the slisssh killed me. Again I'm also going to agree with the against crowd. I like the fact that almost anyone is no longer untouchable, but I dislike the fact that ahabs can outright kill anyone so much more easily. I really would like to see A bit more, even a little less random part to it, when the greatest fighters with low fatigue watch basic creatures which they could have killed as newbies before dodge, it's sort of frustrating. And the same, when 3 cainids even hit, what happens when theres 10 of them? Dying is as part of the game as the other segments of it, but it's become excessive where you maybe died once a month, or twice, now if your hunting, your essentially dying minimum once a week. Some higher ups have high endurance, which means they barely get away with 200 or 300 damage, but it's really just no fun when you have to die repeatedly jst to make the system like this. What I'm saying, I realize Quinn did this to fix the problem that things on the MOO statwise got out of hand, I'd just perfer to have some sense of what not to be afraid of, cainids, rousses, birds, belliflora, etc. And be afraid of what I was before, Srillian, Chim, RSU's. Thats all I'll say, I'd just like to see it a pinch less random, as it is now I think it's turned good swordsman into halfwit fighters. -------------------------- Message 5869 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Tue Jan 19 10:44:03 1999 EST From: Durandal (#23874) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: Whee. Because it's fun to be repetitive (the stat/coded combat argument has come into play every time there is a stat change), I'll join in with the few other people and say: I like the new system. Whee. Sure, I've been killed 3 times since it was implemented (part of this is my feeling that I have to kill the chimaera every time I see it). My dodge, armed and bladed would probably be somewhere around sixty points higher each, some higher. But you know what? It's fun. Dying? Fun? Well, maybe not. But now, rather than stalking the Wheel and killing everything in sight without receiving a single hit by even glims, I might actually have to worry. So, you might be weak and have to find a new place to hunt. Well, here's one consolation: maybe with less people able to amass hordes of crystals, we'll see some reverse inflation. Oh, but if I had to change one thing, I'd make the 'hard' bonus or whatever a bit larger. I like the bigger bonus for group attacks though. -- Blah. -------------------------- Message 5870 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Tue Jan 19 10:49:36 1999 EST From: Ymerith (#22840) To: *Chat (#5391) Yeah, that about sums it up for me too. After getting wiped by a pack of cainids I learned to adjust and watch my rearend a little better. Now if I walk into green sands and get ambushed by more than a handful of doggies and vermin I know to run like hell. As Dante said, I'll get away with about 200 damage if I'm lucky. Yeah, a boost to the hard bonus would be nice. Dunno if it's absolutely necessary though. As for player to player stats, yes I've seen a difference. It's no secret I'm sort of a sparmunkie, people ask me to help boost them. A lot of people with mediocre stats could wipe me out if I was half asleep. This comes from observation with many different people. -------------------------- Message 5871 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Tue Jan 19 10:56:05 1999 EST From: Tirafal (#24173) To: *Chat (#5391) Personally, I think the only way to tweak the combat sytem and truly make it a playable CRPG is to seperate player to player combat from the system entirely. The MOO would then have two parts, one would actually BE a CRPG. The other would be for RP purposes. The spar monkeys would be happy, the RPers would be happy and everybody could play the game they want to play. I still feel as it stands, as a CRPG, the game sux. There is too much possibility of getting killed by CG monsters that in anyother CRPG would be one hit wonders. In any other CRPG the bonuses stand as is. There is none of this random stuff. I already said, if I want rl I'll go play in the ghetto (which I ain't gonna do). Give me a chance to advance and become a stat god in a game. So if a bee stung them on the tail it might take hours before the brain registered it and sent back the proper response.. The large soft musy one that controls his want for food and football.. The other does everything else.. Though it is small and only works if it is getting enough blood at the time. If a man is watching said football or eating and you try to communitcate with him.. It could be hours before the small brain even gets the message.. By then it may just shrug it off as if it was a dream.. This might account for reports from woman that he just does not listen to me.. Sure, you could manually back up the data files if you knew their names and where to put them, but it's much easier to use ICQ Rescue. Select the folder that holds your ICQ files, then choose where to store the backup. In a flash you've got the contact list, bookmarks, and message history safely retained. When you need to restore, the process is just as easy. Just choose the folder where your backup is stored, then select your new ICQ installation. This utility, which is free and requires no installation, is one that no ICQ user should be without. Reviewed on Jan 19 1999. Works with both 99b and 99a, nice program and it's freeware! It sucks. Period. It used to be fun. Now it's work. I'm tired of coming close to dying everytime I turn around. I'm tired of trying to run and heal at the same time. I'm tired of being in a critical position and having to wait a full sixty seconds and twiddle my thumbs and watch for the possibility of further attack while I wait until my next healing attempt. In short, to me it's not a game anymore. I think the most telling part of it is that I actually get PHYSICALLY tired now, sitting at the computer trying to deal with it. It's stress. I don't have any say any in the matter. It's just my opinion for what it's worth (which isn't much). -------------------------- Message 5957 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Tue Feb 2 12:20:50 1999 EST From: Sterno (#21938) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: Combat I've actually grown to like it better than I did before. The hard modifiers could probably use some tweaking still (lone grave dancers probably shouldn't be able to hit me while I'm wielding a katana) BUT, assuming that minor tweaks will be made, I give it two thumbs up. My only question is if the critters are subject to the same types of modifiers that we are? I don't know if it matters whether they are or not, but I was curious. -------------------------- Message 5958 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Tue Feb 2 12:59:35 1999 EST From: Quinn (#2) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: Combat The modifiers are defined on $skill and are the same for PC and NPC (including beasties). I was considering raising the hard bar to the current average for a skill, but capping it at 100 makes the existing (usually -100 to 100) combat modifiers _mean_ something again. I'm not yet convinced the new system "sucks." -------------------------- Message 5959 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Tue Feb 2 16:12:00 1999 EST From: Clayson (#17237) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: re: New system A week or so ago I brought an alt out to play that had no skills what so ever. I wanted to see how hard the new system really was. What I did first was raise my unarmed/brawl. No fatigue, no crystals needed to keep boosting. This I did on Jizo. After gaining some points I headed off to the graveyard in N'Orleans. There I waited for the ravens, punched em all once in the head and practice my medic on each. Sure its tedious and time consuming, but like irl, hard work seems to pay off. After that I killed as much as I could, well ravens and snakes, I gathered enough crystals to work on my weapon skills. It can be done, it just takes a bit more time and effort. To sum it up, I like the new system. It gives players time to build their character's while they work on their skills. Before, a player could become very powerful in a short time if they spared every hour on the hour. Their character concept would change in days. A newly skilled blades men should not be an expert in a week, nor a medic in 2 days. This IS a role-playing game after all. Use the disadvantage to your advantage within the game. If you become hurt badly, find a skilled medic. If you become fatigued, go to the bar, have a drink, tell your story, or make up one. The game should be fun, stress is for rl. -------------------------- Message 5960 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Wed Feb 3 16:47:44 1999 EST From: Dante (#10660) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: Just for mention. Spells and stats are now sufficiently balanced so that a 'average' layer cannot hit someone with 500, basically mores in shifts from what I can tell. So if your bladed is over 1000, you won't have to worry in most cases unless your opponent has the same. A list might not be the best way to go, it would still be necessary to make contacts until the professional is reached, but I think there would be much RP and fun if people actually had to work for something. For example, what's the point of having the skill carpentry when anybody can just replicate a tent and redescribe it as a log cabin or temporary shelter? I could list examples all day, but that would be wasting my time as well as yours. I think this is a lot of the reason for our decline of RP around here, people have gotten lazy and spoiled by the replicators. Why not replicate a child of generic food and call it `pile of crystals' while we're at it? :) Don't get me wrong, we need the replicators to make things like that. I think there should be more to it than just appearing with more stuff than someone had the day before. I applaud the efforts of someone I saw yesterday wearing a gatorskin jacket, he actually went and killed himself a gator before renaming the jacket. I'd like to see more RP for replicated objects other than pressing a button and being supplied with anything from a hunting lodge to a portable tv. Of course items from time of creation would be fine since the character would already have them from previous life, maybe after their first sheet thumbprint would be a good cut off point? Sorry to ramble, I'd like to see more RP is all. -------------------------- Message 5989 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Thu Feb 11 20:39:54 1999 EST From: Zecular (#20311) To: *Chat (#5391) Long note ahead -------------------------- Message 5990 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Thu Feb 11 20:40:27 1999 EST From: Zecular (#20311) To: *Chat (#5391) Red roses were her favorites, her name was also Rose. And every year her husband sent them, tied with pretty bows. The year he died, the roses were delivered to her door. The card said, "Be my Valentine," like all the years before. Each year he sent her roses, and the note would always say, "I love you even more this year, than last year on this day." "My love for you will always grow, with every passing year." She knew this was the last time that the roses would appear. She thought, he ordered roses in advance before this day. Her loving husband did not know, that he would pass away. He always liked to do things early, way before the time. Then, if he got too busy, everything would work out fine. She trimmed the stems, and placed them in a very special vase. Then, sat the vase beside the portrait of his smiling face. She would sit for hours, in her husband's favorite chair. While staring at his picture, and the roses sitting there A year went by, and it was hard to live without her mate. With loneliness and solitude, that had become her fate. Then, the very hour, as on Valentines before, The doorbell rang, and there were roses, sitting by her door She brought the roses in, and then just looked at them in shock. Then, went to get the telephone, to call the florist shop. The owner answered, and she asked him, if he would explain, Why would someone do this to her, causing her such pain? "I know your husband passed away, more than a year ago," The owner said, "I knew you'd call, and you would want to know." "The flowers you received today, were paid for in advance." "Your husband always planned ahead, he left nothing to chance." "There is a standing order, that I have on file down here, And he has paid, well in advance, you'll get them every year. There also is another thing, that I think you should know, He wrote a special little card...he did this years ago." "Then, should ever, I find out that he's no longer here, That's the card...that should be sent, to you the following year." She thanked him and hung up the phone, her tears now flowing hard. Her fingers shaking, as she slowly reached to get the card. Inside the card, she saw that he had written her a note. Then, as she stared in total silence, this is what he wrote... "Hello my love, I know it's been a year since I've been gone, I hope it hasn't been too hard for you to overcome." "I know it must be lonely, and the pain is very real. For if it was the other way, I know how I would feel. The love we shared made everything so beautiful in life. I loved you more than words can say, you were the perfect wife." "You were my friend and lover, you fulfilled my every need. I know it's only been a year, but please try not to grieve. I want you to be happy, even when you shed your tears. That is why the roses will be sent to you for years." "When you get these roses, think of all the happiness, That we had together, and how both of us were blessed. I have always loved you and I know I always will. But, my love, you must go on, you have some living still." "Please...try to find happiness, while living out your days. I know it is not easy, but I hope you find some ways. The roses will come every year, and they will only stop, When your door's not answered, when the florist stops to knock." "He will come five times that day, in case you have gone out. But after his last visit, he will know without a doubt, To take the roses to the place, where I've instructed him, And place the roses where we are, together once again." -------------------------- Message 5991 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Fri Feb 12 00:02:14 1999 EST From: Anubis (#22578) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: IC professionals One of the problems I see is that there are more people in this world than just the players. I own some, but I only wear them when in a formal setting or if my pants are falling off. I don't really care if it's a trend or not. The chopine: A platform-like shoe, about 8-12 inches high, to make women appear taller and more grand. It also helped them keep their hems out of the raw sewage on the streets. The codpiece: Think of a jockstrap made out of pieced velvet and fancy trim. Now add big silk poufs all over it. Make it bright colors. No, I'm not kidding. Leg Paint: Worn by women during the world wars, because nylon and silk weren't available. It got all over everything. They often also drew the line up the backs of their legs as well. Hairpieces in the Renaissance: In Italy, hair of a completely different color than one's natural hair would be worn braided into one's own. Why? Beacuse it proved you could afford to have a northern woman's hair shaved off all for you. Oh. Vermin in hair, especially wig/piece hair, was a major problem. Metal corsetry. 18-inch waists, fainting spells, consumption, high pregnancy complication rate. Powdered wigs: Guess what. They used flour to powder them. Guess what the vermin ate? Yep. Flour and similar grains. Foot Binding: A woman's feet would be bound to prevent them from growing, creating a dainty image. Of course, these women could barely walk -- but they were highly fashionable. Spiral chokers: Taken to an extreme to stretch the neck, they were never removed. Some women decided to remove them after many years as a sign of female independance, and found that their neck muscles had attrophied to the point where they could not move or hold up their heads. ..more to come, but as you can see, there have been far less intelligent fashion statements than tucked shirts without belts. It was 5 years ago today that I met Quinn for the first time, and it was 5 years ago today that I knew I'd found something special. Ghostwheel's had a tough ride over the last 5 years, always managing to side-step the fate that has come to so many other MOOs around the net, but it's survived. How this place manages to hold itself together is entirely beyond me, but I'm glad to be here, and I'm glad to have had the opprotunity to serve the MOO populous over the last five years. I grew up on Ghostwheel. When I first logged on I was a 16 year old Junior in high school, with very little sense of place in the world. Since then things haven't gotten much better, but I've changed quite a bit. The one constant in my life over the past few years has been Ghostwheel, and the friends I've made here. I won't name names, but you know who you are. There have been alot of good times on this MOO, with alot of people, many of whom aren't even on anymore. This MOO has one thing most virtual communities and online distractions lack, which is history. You can't buy history, you have to endure it, and Ghostwheel's endured it. Certain unnamed MOO folks, including myself spend a considerable amount of our spare time pondering ways to 'fix Ghostwheel', but as I look back on the last 5 years, I don't think that Ghostwheel is something that can be 'fixed', anymore than a pool of water you've thrown a rock into can be calmed. Everything takes time. People on this MOO are a flighty lot. They get hurt and irritated more often than alot of characters on the soap operas I catch my mother watching sometimes. If there's one thing I've learned in the last half-decade, it's that people will be people, and you can't try and change them, you just have to accept them. People like Darkhawk and Karcass may get on peoples nerves, but if treated with a little respect and a paternal grin, they're generally content to just sit around and play with their toys. And speaking of toys, toys break, and that's life. Players shouldn't expect to be able to exploit holes in the system, and programmers and builders shouldn't expect players to report them. Not exploiting bugs, and reporting them is laudable, but against human nature. All in all, you've got to realize that none of this is real, and you have to take a breather every once in a while, but when you do, don't make a big deal about it. Respect is something which is deserved, and worked for. Respect doesn't come with an office, like a desk and chair, it's something that you have to strive for. Try and give a little of it, and see if you don't start to get some back. People like being treated like human beings, and they'll pay you back for your trouble. This is turning into more of a tirade than I intended it to be, so I'll simply say this... It's been a very interesting, fun, educational, and heart-wrenching five years, and I sincerely hope that there are five more years in store for this place, in whatever form it changes into. You know, Mulder's post earlier got me to pondering. I've been here four years now (as of Feb. 16th). I've been here through the laughter and the tears, the days of wonderful roleplay and the bickering that always went on throughout the *lists. I've gotten defensive, indignant, insulting, stubborn, supportive, sympathetic, and had it all thrown back at me at one point or another. I've seen people come, and I've seen people go. Thinking back, when I first logged in here, the little newbie that I was, I still remember initially having no idea what clothing and nudity was. (I ran around for weeks with no description and no clothing, Ghostwheel was my first MOO, as well as my first internet experience.) Quinn scared the bejesus out of me, and when he and Dylan started teasing me about my 'nudity', I logged out I was so embarassed. (Then I found out later they weren't seeing a damn thing, talk about chagrin.) I wonder whatever became of some of the original players I remember, people such as Merc1, Mojo and Lish, who just seemed to fade away after a time and I never saw them again. I miss roleplaying with some of the older players here who have, due to rl or other reasons, stopped playing and only remain idle here, such as Elendil, Deckard, and Yzryel. I miss roleplaying with some of the GMs who are so rarely seen IC these days, if ever. I'll never forget the high lagged time everyone was trying to reach the manhole out in the wastelands, and the comical banter that went on over the comms. I miss those days of innocence. In all, four years is a long time to be in one place and not change. I started as a player with no clue about how to manipulate objects in a MOO environment. Through new friends, I learned, Deckard taught me how to make clothing, and even sparred with me (killed me a few times that way, *laugh*). Stalinger taught me the wonders of *gasp* long poses! Guru introduced me to dramatic roleplay. And Quinn allowed me into a wonderful world of make believe. Eventually I became a GM, I felt this world had given me something and I wanted to give something back to it. And I hope I achieved that goal. Whether it be the beastmasters out there, or the Soulmech areas I created, or the Cemetery in N'Orleans, or even the wilds of Wolf Moon Valley, these are my gift to the MOO, in exchange for four years of fun. I hope it's enough. And with that, I humbly submit my resignation as a GM and player on Ghostwheel. Times have changed, and I have changed with them. I started when I was 20, a college student with a lot of lofty dreams. I'm 24 now, married and maybe even a mother soon (yes, Rand and I are considering this). I'm already too idle as it is, and I no longer believe I have the time and energy to dedicate to this MOO. Thank you, everyone, for the unique experiences, good and bad, that I had here. I wish you all peace, love, and happiness in your futures. Insufficient consideration has been given to the new underground religious war which is modifying the modern world. It's an old idea, but I find that whenever I tell people about it they immediately agree with me. The fact is that the world is divided between users of the Macintosh computer and users of the MS-DOS compatible computers. I am firmly of the opinion that the Macintosh is Catholic and the DOS is Protestant. Indeed, the Macintosh is counter-reformist and has been influenced by the 'ratio studiorumi` of the Jesuits. It is cheerful, friendly, conciliatory, it tells the faithful how they must proceed step by step to reach --- if not the Kingdom of Heaven--- the moment in which their document is printed. It is catechistic: the essence of revelation is dealt with via simple formulae and sumptuous icons. Everyone has a right to salvation. DOS is Protestant, or even Calvinistic. It allows free interpretation of scripture, demands difficult personal decisions, imposes a subtle hermeneutics upon the user, and takes for granted the idea that not all can reach salvation. To make the system work you need to interpret the program yourself: a long way from the baroque community of revelers, the user is closed within the loneliness of his own inner torment. You may object that, with the passage to Windows, the DOS universe has come to resemble more closely the counter-reformist tolerance of the Macintosh. It's true: windows represents an Anglican-style schism, big ceremonies in the cathedral, but there is always the possibility of a return to DOS to change things in accordance with bizarre decisions: when it comes down to it, you can decide to allow women and gays to be ministers if you want to... And machine code, which lies beneath both systems (or environments, if you prefer)? Ah, that is to do with the Old Testament, and is talmudic and cabalistic. -------------------------- Message 6059 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Fri Feb 19 13:27:55 1999 EST From: Tirafal (#24173) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: About chainsaws Y'know it must be nice to have a weapon more powerful then a gun (which at least requires that you periodically buy bullets and have at least SOME skill in using) that never runs out of gas, never requires maintenance and never even requires the occasional new chain. He was doing a song that Pete Seeger wrote for the sailing of the tall ships during the Bicentennial when we started talking about the USS Constitution doing it's little run out of Baltimore harbor about a year ago after it was rebuilt. Bob (my friend) mentioned that there was a guy he knew that lived locally who is a direct descendant of Isaac Hull, the man who captained the Constitution when it engaged the Guirreiere, which was the battle that gave the ship it's name "Old Ironsides". Then the odd thing happened; the guy showed up. His name is Bill Hull. He is without a doubt one of the leading authorities on the ship and it's history. We ended up talking for awhile and he told me several stories about the ship and Hull that I had never heard. It's so cool to get the inside scoop on something like this. It's little stories like this that bring history alive to me and make it real. It makes you realize that they were more then just names and dates; that they were people and they got drunk and partied and had problems just like anybody else. Not to mention the funny, odd little details of an historic event that make it seem like yesterday. KC is gearing up for St. Patrick's Day. They have the third largest St. Pat's parade in the country. Only NYC and Chicago outrank us. But it's all the partying leading up to it and the the partying after the parade I get into. I always go to the same place every year and soak myself in trad music. And let's not forget the Bushmill's :) (I refuse to do green beer :) Speaking of Bushmill's, last night I ordered a shot with a Harp back. The barmaid asked me if that was the way I REALLY wanted it and not on ice. I assured her that indeed, I could handle it ;) There is nothing better in the world then a shot of VERY good irish whiskey hitting my stomach and exploding in a fireball of warmth. Ahhhh.... HOWEVER, NONE of the following commands work: Read Large Red Tome Read Large_Red_Tome Get Large_Red_Tome Get Large Red Tome Get Red Tome Get Red_Tome Read Red Tome Read Red_Tome Now... pardon me, but since ALL of the above commands return something akin to "What the hell are you talking about you idiot?", It can only be assumed that either A) There IS NO Large Red Tome in that room or B) The person who coded the look_place for this mythical book didn't think to include the book's alias in the message. -------------------------- Message 6081 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Thu Feb 25 19:41:38 1999 EST From: Tarla (#18104) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: Pardon.... Apparently, since I was here this morning someone thought to add the book's title to the message. Ignore my previous rant. -------------------------- Message 6082 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Thu Feb 25 19:41:53 1999 EST From: Rathe (#14172) To: *Chat (#5391) I retract my previous statement. There still needs to be a fairly simple and intuitive alias for it. At the moment I'm reading the damned thing by ID#. "Dragons of Morlith" doesn't work, and even if it did it's way too verbose for a common use alias. How about giving it the alias "Tome" or "DragonTome" or some such thing. -------------------------- Message 6084 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Thu Feb 25 20:08:19 1999 EST From: DragonBabe (#5288) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: Book I appologise that the book didn't have its title on it, I fixed that last night, I have added some aliases. I generally have the title of the book set out like TDOM, DOM and book is one. This also has the alias bk2, which was more to help me. Also, I will generally put aliases as partial names of the book, this time I goofed. Sorry for driving you insane, Tarla..Mea Culpa. *hugs* DB/Di -------------------------- Message 6085 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Thu Feb 25 20:09:08 1999 EST From: Tarla (#18104) To: *Chat (#5391) Sokay DB... just dont let it happen again ;) -------------------------- Message 6086 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Thu Feb 25 20:10:02 1999 EST From: DragonBabe (#5288) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: Re: $ *WHIMPER* -------------------------- Message 6087 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Thu Feb 25 20:10:33 1999 EST From: DragonBabe (#5288) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: Book Oh, I also added 'tome' to the damn book..*grins* -------------------------- Message 6088 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Thu Feb 25 21:39:46 1999 EST From: Karma (#20542) To: *Chat (#5391) Some folks have been wondering why I've been so quiet of late... I'm ok, I'm not pissy or anything. About a week ago, I went with a friend on a midnight errand to retrieve her grandmother's will from a farmhouse along the NY/PA border. No one had been living in the house for over 2 years, and because of the location, there was the potential for trouble with animals. We stayed the night there, since the drive itself was over 4 hours. We woke to find that we were both rather ill -- nauseous, burning eyes, wheezing, and feverish. The beds we'd been sleeping in were filled beneath the bottom sheets (which neither of us had removed) with rat poison pellets, and we'd been sleeping in them for 5-6 hours. We were both fairly ill for a few days, but all is as well as could be expected now. My eyes are still bothering me a bit, so the time I can spend in front of the screen is fairly limited. Gotta run for now, but I wanted to make sure all the folks who'd left pages during my long idles knew what was goin' on. Love ya all! -me. -------------------------- Message 6089 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Thu Feb 25 23:02:31 1999 EST From: Mercury (#16576) To: *Chat (#5391) HOW DARE YOU GO OUTSIDE! Like a lot of moms there were times she was a big PITA, but at the same time she would have given me the shirt off her back (literally. I went through her closet more then once. :) She loved me...pure and simple. Bailed me out of trouble more times then I can count, put up with my boyfriends, and babysat my kids when I started having them just so I could go out and have a good time. When I became an adult we became companions; went out for lunch and shopping or a movie together. Sometimes I'd go to see her just to hang out with her. And she fulfilled her role of the matriarch with grace and style. She was quick with an opinion, but never told me what to do. When I fell flat on my face she would pick me up, but never say "I told you so." Toward the last she suffered a lot; not just physically, my dad died 2 years before her and she never stopped missing him. I'm glad she's with him now and doesn't have to suffer anymore. But oh how I miss her..... -------------------------- Message 6092 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Fri Feb 26 14:14:31 1999 EST From: DragonBabe (#5288) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: Apartments There are apartments available at the hacienda on Jizo, and at the Le Masque in N'Orleans. First off, Happy Birthday to Denali.. Ya old fart... Second... I ain't been doing so good in real life.. Mom is actually doing pretty good, but I decided to fall apart.. They tell me I got a narrowing of my small intestine which is 90% closed for about 3 inches which is gonna have to have surgery to remove.. That hurts a bit.. Also they got me on a mess of drugs that got me feeling like shit most the time and I can't concentrate on much and have had a very hard time staying online for more than a hello or such.. Plus I screwed up in another way that is really making me sick but I don't wanna go into that one.. Anyhow, I think it is great that Dante and company are playing with the rangers.. Just make sure they concent to your madness.. Also as long as I'm not able to be around I'd appreciate that Ranger HQ is off limits.. Just think of it as very heavidly guarded at all times and that I would if I was online be waiting just inside.. So no breaking into the base ok.. Thanks.. I really ain't sure what the Rangers think or are doing, none except one has kept in contact with me through pages and that one retired so I'm at a loss.. But really do hope you all are having fun.. That is what is important.. Hopefully soon I'll mend up and get my brain working again so I can come online and sit still and concentrate on what to do.. That is the hardest part.. I spend alot of time sleeping at the moment.. Anyhow, take care and love ya all..
