To be pedantic, Scotland is _not_ part of Britain.  Great Britain is made up
of two countries: England and Wales.  The United Kingdom, on the other hand,
is made up of three, plus a few other assorted places: England, Wales, and
Scotland, plus Northern Ireland.  The Channel Islands do not belong to the UK,
but are rather, associated with it via the monarch.  Ie, they are independant,
in theory, and have their own legislatures, so UK laws do not apply there.
One reason why there's a thriving tax-haven industry in the Channel Islands.

Well, this isn't done for any other reason other then my place of work.  They
have the majority of the plant on 10 hour mandatory overtime workdays.
I love my job, really I do, I love my co-workers, my boss is possibly the best
supervisor in the plant, and there's something so attractively primal about
working in an industrial setting.  However, dammit, these 58 to 60 hour weeks
are killing me.  So, therefore, I won't be on too terribly much.  My apologies
to anyone trying to get ahold of me.  Beastmaster creation may take some time,

Ok, I just installed an internal zip drive on my computer but after I
installed the drive, a new floppy disk drive (b:) has appeared. How can I get
rid of this drive. I have already removed it from control panel;device
manager;disk drives but it still shows up under my computer. Also, when I try

freeze.

I went to a lecture the other day at our local Borders bookstore. They often
have people come in to talk about the books they have written if they're in
the area, etc. Yesterday afternoon, the woman who came in was speaking about
the book she'd been working on -- it's about people who, for whatever reason,
believe that they are vampires.
     Mainly, her book centered on some of the more harmless sorts, though she
did interview a serial killer and some others who have mental disorders. A
psychologist by trade, writer by choice, she found that most of the people she
was talking to weren't insane, as most of the rest of the world thought they
must be. They were simply different. They had very active fantasy lives,
enjoyed role-play, enjoyed activities which were, for the most part, harmless,
and didn't interfere with their responsibilities on the whole.
     One thing that she stressed was that our country has a different view
about people like this than many others. Despite the fact that the `American
Way of Life'<tm> prides itself on personal freedom, freedom of expression and
belief, etc., she'd found a great deal of evidence that in this country more
so than in many others, freedom of expression and belief were more suppressed
than in many other areas. Many of the people that she interviewed, as well as
others she had worked with who didn't think they were vampires or anything
else `unsual' were categorized as `fantasy-prone'. Her contemporaries had gone
so far as to say that almost everyone who role-plays fits into this category,
and that being `fantasy-prone' is a _disorder_.
     She went on to point out that the definition of fantasy-prone was merely
`someone with an active imagination'. The classification had nothing
whatsoever to do with the person's ability to deal with the real world -- so
someone who is fully competant, responsible, etc. could be considered to be
fantasy-prone and hence have a disorder even if their imagination never
interfered in any way with their day to day life. She didn't agree with these
people.
     Am I the only person who is a little disturbed by this?
     Does anyone else find it scary that simply by wanting to think
creatively, explore things not accessible in their real life through RP, or
even just daydream about what they'd do if they won the lottery is, by some
psychologists, classified as having a serious mental disorder?

..sorry for the odd rambling, just thought it would be interesting to hear
what people had to say about this, since it really scared the hell out of me.
She did go on to say that in most other cultures, people with strong
imaginations are revered and respected, not told they are `wrong'.

Subject:  Fantasy Prone Disorder.

In the DSM-IV, there is no such disorder to my knowledge.  Having read it
extensively in my studies, I never saw anything like it.  (I could be wrong,
but I'm inclined not to  think so.)

Next, no one can just label anyone with a disorder (albeit often people do who
think they know psychology or have a little training in it and somehow this
magically allows them to make a diagnosis).  Psychology in general frowns on
the automatic labelling of individuals outside of a clinical setting.  (It
happens anyway, but it is considered bad form.)

Lastly, there are several criteria in any given disorder catagory that has to
be met before the disorder is said to exist.  One of the big ones is: Does it
upset the individual.  In other words, if these people are not harming anyone
in society and are themselves unconcerned with their habits, then there is no
disoorder.  If what they do disturbs them, then there _may_ be a problem,
provided other criteria are met.

Just a few thoughts.

I don't know anything really about disorders or Psychology. But it seems to me
if a person takes on the personalty of the char they are playing outside the
realms of the game. Well yea, they might have a problem. As far as people who
have an imagination being labeled with a disorder, well, I am sure there are
those out there who will belive it. Perhaps even try to submit a law governing
it. In turn, I think people who wear their pants 3 inches above their belly
button scrunched tightly with a belt are a bit strange. I suppose I could
speak about it on a public forum, throw in words to like troubled, disorder
and such, and gather a following of idiots who start to think that all ppl
with wedges are insane :)

Back in the late '70's this same flap came around about people playing AD&D.
There was even a novel written with a character that had the "syndrome", never
mind that no such syndrome exists.
The truth is that anyone psychotic will latch on to any crutch that will
support their psychosis. Fantasy can provide that to some. However, to label
fantasy itself as a syndrome is going a bit far. This would mean that writers,
artists, musicians; anybody involved in a creative endeavour, was, by
definition, insane. Don't think so :)

Subject:  A holiday tale

As I sit here eating my Thanksgiving dinner of Fruit Loops, not to knock Fruit
loops at all mind you, I reflect back the past 8 or so hours I have just gone
through.
It started out well enough, left for a 90min drive to the south....got about
60mins worth done when my engine and temperature light came on.
Hrm. Trouble. So I immeadiately pull over and pop the hood. And watch the
antifreeze come streaming out and onto the ground. Hrm. No place close by.
What do I do now?
Saved! A nice gentleman gives me a ride back north to a gas station that is
open. I thank the man and go into the store to buy some water. Then I proceed
to try and carry the 5 gallons of water back....did we really drive a few
miles?
Saved! A nice man who remembers carrying water to overheated cars while
stationed in the Phillipines gives me a ride to my car. I thank him and fill
it up and manage to make it to the gas station. AAA to the rescue!
Not quite. Four hours later still no tow truck. Well my engine is cooled off
now. So let's try and make it home, eh? About 20miles down the road I am
waiting for my truck to cool off again. A few hours later I head off once
again. Again to watch it overheat before my final destination. A State
Trooper! Saved!
Yes, this time the State Trooper manages to get me a tow truck. Turns out its
the same company who couldn't find me before. Amazing that, eh?
Thanksgiving?.....Did I mention that I like Fruit Loops?

Holidays are fun, eating, drinking. Seeing family and friends. Talking shit
and riding through earth quakes :) Just a small one, 5.4, kind of a welcome
back I suppose. Its funny, 500 miles from home, 3 states away and the sun is
shinning, warm enough to wear shorts again.
Of course mom freaked out, dad drilled us about politics. My younger brother
brought a drawing by Crumb (I think that is how you spell his name) from the
RollingStone mag, pretty cool if you have not seen it, depicting Clinton and
Monica bringing in the pizza. Dad introduced me to the Freerepublic web page.
Saw a picture of Clinton's love child. heh. Oh, and learned how to play
bridge, saw my older brothers huge belly, he seems to be rather proud of it.
And of course Darci and I laughed and acted like idiots the whole time.
Also received the lecture about drinking way to much..honestly, I don't see
the problem, I was still fully dressed :)  *that's a joke for those humor
impaired*

Rand and I had a decent time.  I got to meet my mother and sister in law for
the first time.  My mother in law is actually a neat person to know, so that
went well.  His sister... well, let's just say that if any of my children
burst into tears after losing a board game at the age of 19...  But anyway...
The trip to and fro wasn't as boring as I feared it would be, we saw a few
things that cracked us up.  Such as:  The Kum and Go.  (A convienience store
chain); The Big Wong (chinese resturant); and The Wel-Kum Inn  (You really
have to wonder about people who come up wtih thist stuff.)

I just... have to say something. You know those times when you know something
really horrible has happenned, but you can't do a damned thing about it?
Well... as petty as it might sound, this is one of those times.

About a year and a half ago, the cat that I had dragged home and forced on my
family (the family that later, when I moved, said sure _I_ could go but if I
had any designs on that cat they'd disown me) was killed by a pair of large
dogs that were roaming the neighborhood in the middle of the night. They
apparently thought the cat was a toy, and tossed her around until her neck
broke. Sure -- you might be a sick fuck and consider that funny, but it isn't.
This was the sweetest, most gentle animal in the world.
     My mother cried for weeks. I'm her only brat, and the cat helped fill the
void of `a child in the home' for her when I left. She was crushed, because,
as silly as it may seem to some, the cat had become her surrogate `baby'. I'm
sure alot of the people with pets out there can relate.
     Then, there was an unexpected `blessing'. One of my cats became pregnant,
and had four adorable kittens. My parents, my s/o, and I watched their birth,
and took care of them more or less as though they were our kids. Nothing was
too good for these little critters, and even though they were sometimes pests
and got into things, they were extremely precious to us; we considered them
part of the family.
     After two months, I convinced my mother to take a pair of the kittens.
She needed cats around her, and everyone knew it. She and my father _adored_
these two. There are pictures of my parents and these cats all over the house
-- it was really nice to see my folks act like kids again because of the
kittens, they work damned hard and don't always have much joy in their lives.
     Then, they let the cats outside. As cats tend to do, they wandered all
over the neighborhood. The dogs never reappeared, so after a while, my parents
became comfortable with this.
     The cats would wander into the neighbor's yard often, as it is a mere ten
feet from our doorstep. They would chase the cats off their property with
shovels, brooms, and rakes -- I have seen them strike the cats _hard_ more
than once -- usually after calling them close with little coos and kissy
noises.
     My parents then hear from the neighbor, (and this isn't a joke, but it
says -alot- about how nuts the neighbors are...) `We have video footage of
your cat defacating on our lawn! Our entire lawn is ruined!' Absolutely
_nothing_ is different about their lawn today as it was before the cats were
even born, and that's the god's honest truth.
     A few days later, we find a notice on our doorstep: `Due to the number of
feral and rabid cats in the area, traps are being set around the neighborhood
to catch these dangerous animals and take them to have them destroyed.' They
were `cage' traps, not `killing' traps, but nevertheless, we knew that there
were no `rabid' cats in our area, nor were there feral cats in the
neighborhood. This was being done to harass my parents into keeping our
collared, healthy, declawed and neutered cats indoors.
     We had to fetch our cats from the traps (baited with cat food, which any
cat -- pet, wild, or otherwise -- will go after) often, and did keep them
indoors far more often than we had before. (I kept hoping they'd catch a rabid
raccoon and it'd kill the bastard neighbors, but that's just me. Alas, it
never happenned.)
     Then one of the kittens vanished. Poof. Not a trace. It wasn't in the
traps. The SPCA and all local humane organizations hadn't had it brought to
them. No dogs had been seen. None of the neighbors had seen it -- though the
last time it was seen, it was apparently, sniffing around the next-door
neighbor's trap.
     My father looked all over the area, we combed every inch of the
surrounding neighborhoods and roadways. There was no trace of the kitten,
alive or dead.
     My mother told me he'd been missing a week on my birthday.
     We know the neighbors have done something to the kitten. While they were
once friendly, neither of them, the husband or the wife, can meet my parents'
eyes anymore. They rush into the house if any of us are outside. When my
father ran into the husband at a store, he smiled and waved -- the husband
jumped as though he'd been shot and dashed off. There are other `signs' of
guilt, so to speak.
     The day the kitten vanished, the trap vanished as well.
     My mother is a wreck. She now has another of the kittens, but it
obviously isn't the same. My family doesn't seem to be able to have the same
kind of happiness in them anymore, and it almost brings me to tears. All this
because of cat shit on a lawn.

So... I hate my neighbors. Venomously.

Revenge ideas, anyone? I'm -really-, REALLY pissed.

Go to a garden store that stocks pond supplies. Buy copper sulfate (I think
that's it, it's copper something) and mix it /more/ than the instructions say.
It's supposed to kill algae but at higher strengths it will kill grass, fish
and other things. And it will be a long time before it grows back.
Though I don't know how effective bleach would be, but I'm sure there wouldn't

Here's a scheme to get yourself involved it. It requires some money.
You need:
Rubber gloves.

Make up the Fecological Institute of (State) University. Send an offical

functions of the elderly along with a box with the return postage. Make sure
you describe the retrieval of the feces in very scientific terms.
Mail out the package to several elderly people. Surprise surprise, the address
of the Fecological Institute of (State) University is the address of the
person who has wronged you.
Just count the days and wait for word to hit you about your mark getting boxes
and boxes of feces in the mail.
Best done during the summer.
And if you want to make their life hell even more, just ask for the elderly
people's credit card numbers with expiration dates for a full proctological
exam at a discounted price. Then inform the police of the mark's scam to
fulfill his fetish and rip off the elderly.

Ok. I know this has nothing to do with the MOO, so if ya dun wanna read it,
skip it. But I'm cranky about this and need to vent said crankiness before
attempting to go to my workplace Christmas party, so I can have a good time
amongst all the other people/friends consuming free alcohol.
In my SciFi Lit class (a dream course, far as I'm concerned) we've had a
problem with attendance... namely that it dropped off to less than 50% for
several weeks during the middle/late part of the semester. Now the end of the
semester has come, and people are looking at grades which are severely docked
for lack of attendance/participation. We have a class listserve, and someone
wrote an email to our prof, who then posted it (anonymously, on the student's
part) to the listserve. The email basically said: "I've talked to some of the
people who routinely skipped class, and they said that the reason they skipped
was that they were intimidated into not discussing by people who were more
familiar with scifi. Would you want to go to a class where you felt left out?"
My response to this was to say that I'm a 'fantasy' person, and hadn't really
read any hardcore scifi prior to the class, which was a reason that I took it.
People had been given plenty of opportunity to participate, were asked
point-blank what they thought, and many of them responded with, "Well, I
didn't do the reading. I'm not prepared to talk about it." Those of us who
became 'dominant' voices did so after people stopped showing up... My
suggestion was that the only bar to these people who felt "left out" was their
own lack of reading, and willingness to participate -at all-.
So then, just a few minutes ago, there was a reply from another one of the
dominant voices saying to -me- personally that I was antagonistic and so a bar
to people participating in class... not bothering to address the fact that
these absentee people hadn't -ever- participated, even when I kept my mouth
shut. Most of you know me, and know that I do (admittedly) have trouble
keeping quiet if I disagree with something, but I sincerely doubt that I had
become the bugbear of the course and driven people to not attending out of
fear of having to tangle with me verbally.
So, in short, it just really steams me that people are not being made to take
responsibility for their own grades, and instead are soothed and comforted for
their whining about how "left out" they felt and how vocal the rest of us
were.  I'm a senior in college, and I thought I was -way- past the stage of
having to coddle people because they might not have as much 'experience' in
the class room discussion environment and so on, but I suppose that Miami and
her student body has outdone themselves once again. Whee.
I can't WAIT to get out of here.

Sorry I've been away for a day or so, just been out of sorts with life and
such.. Woke up this morning to snow though.. about 3 inches fell.  So you

My computer is home and working great again.. Seems the fan was going out and
the heat was doing strange things.. So there is a good reason not to run a pc
for long hours I reckon..  Make sure that fan works!

Mom's cancer seems to be spreading, Last scan they found it in her bones and
then recently the tumors in her liver have either grown or swelled from
bleeding so we should find out what is going on with that by weeks end..  She
isn't doing to bad for a stubborn ol goat but she is tough and holds it in I
think.

Well, as alot of you folks know, I've gotten deeply screwed by the post office

Lost over $1100 (and counting) now in orders, and $360 in money orders. It
also killed my credibility.

I donated a $100 outfit to a charity auction, the most expensive and nicest
piece I had. It had to be shipped to Hong Kong. It's come back twice.

Now the person who bought it wants -me- to refund the money, because of the
post office.

She paid over $500 for it in the auction.

So I am now out $600 I don't have in addition to my other orders lost/money
orders lost.

Merry Christmas to me, I guess...

I went down to the Indian Reservation this morning to pick up a carton of
cig's. I've been doing this for 3 years now without any sort of problem. This
morning there was a road block, state police. Less you could prove you were a
Native American, no deal, no cigs..no nothin. So I head off to Costco, 39
dollars for a fucking carton. Screw it, I can by a bag of pot that will last
me a week or two for 50 bucks.

So what's next? Red meat? That will fucking kill ya, or how bout 300 lb ppl
sitting on their ass stuffing their faces night and day. Tell me that is
healthy. Tax them. Or what about stress, that will certainly kill ya...tax all
business. Drunks will kill ya, so lets tax everyone who drinks, or drives a
car, who wears to much perfume. Lets just tax everyone who takes a shit, that
will pretty much cover it don't ya think?

Lets just raise the price of everything that is enjoyable that way the only
thing you can afford to do is sit in your house, watch TV and let to
government throw you a bit of cheese.

Idaho is looking more and more inviting.

I'm waiting for smokes to go up to 5 dollars a pack and I will support any
legislation that will raise the cost of a /pack/ of cigarettes to five
dollars. But once they're 5 dollars a pack, smoking restrictions should be
lifted entirely but the cost should still increase.

First.  NewHope is not an Aeyrie.  It is not a DragonRider exclusive area.  In
fact, it can be reached and enjoyed (if you want to call it that) by anyone,
of any class, who chooses to check it out.   Yes, currently there are several
DRs who live there.  This does not mean that they are the only ones who _may_
live there.
NewHope _is_ in theme.  It is a technological bastion, once a bright speck of
science left abandoned for no known reason.  I have referred to it simply as,
The Complex, since its inception, and it was not originally intended for what
it has become.  A player, roleplaying her way into the area, coined the term
'NewHope' and hence, the name came about.
Really, however, it's very sad to see people making such swift judgements,

I personally am very sorry to hear you say the things you have because they're
wrong. To begin with, unlike Morlith, New Hope is not an "exclusive" DR area.
It's open to anyone of any class that wishes to apply to live there. New Hope
is a mixed community. (Oh horrors! Integration has come to town!)
Secondly, although you are indeed right that at least for the moment DB has
the market "cornered" on any new live dragons that come into existence, she
certainly doesn't, nor should she have, a stranglehold on the way the DR's are
RP'ed. No other GM that runs a class does. Why should she?
New Hope came about, not at GM whim, but because a NUMBER of players requested
it's existence, not all of whom were DR's. New Hope is not an "aeyrie", as
such. It is a mixed community (as said before). It was carefully planned and
Quinn was consulted about how the community should be shaped over and over
again.
To take pot shots at something you haven't even investigated and really know
nothing about is irresponsible and unfair. No one took pot shots at Drach'nal
when it was created. As for it's RP stagnating....we shall see. It's already
stimulated more RP then any other area on this MOO has had for a very long
time. Right now, every major tp on this MOO in one way or another is linked to
New Hope. Until your own RP is as active, you have no right to point fingers.

Then Rand, quite simply, was mistaken, or has his own opinions on what NewHope
is or should be.  If you want to make your judgements based on his post,
rather then the creator's, so be it.
The Complex has been in creation for several months now.  I was careful to
consult Quinn not just for theme viability, but for opinions and input in
general.  There's a lot that meets the eye with that place, and those who
choose to actually live there are in for a lot of surprises and rough times.

You know, life is funny?

I sit here, and I read messages from four of my friends going back and forth
on the issue of New Hope.  Are they good messages?  No.  It basically amounts
to a squabble.  And it disheartens me.  On another side, as the person
responsible for some of the code involved in New Hope, its down right
insulting and hurtful.  But then, here of late, I've began to expect nothing
less of you, Robert.  That is a shame, and I really damn well hate to say it.

I remember a time, nigh on three years ago.  Maybe you do too... When a newbie
named Baltisaar came running into the Lounge, being chased by Chucky, who at
the time was one of the biggest twinks on the MOO.  His 'specialty du jour'
was to lead people to Woods Hole, knock them out, loot them, and drop them in
the ocean.  When I became suspicious of him, I ran.  I ran to you and
Moonheart.  Moonheart protected me from him, while you went and got Quinn.  I
digress, but it seems to me now that you may regret doing that.  I'm sorry you
do.  Am I going to leave?  No.  I've been there, and done that, and it solves
nothing.

I had lost interest in the MOO after I came back in the RP aspect, for the
simple fact that my heart was not in it.  Think on it.  When was the last time
you had seen Baltisaar, or Ynaoise for that matter?  One year?  Two years ago?
I've started playing Ynaoise again, and I'm actually enjoying it.  Am I going
to stop playing him, just because you dislike the new area he is associated
with?  No, but I sure as hell will miss you Robert.  Its hard for me to
believe you, of all people, are hard hearted about new construction, after the
stinks you've raised in the past about nothing being done.  Is it
hypocritical?  Thats not for me to answer, and it might be something for you
to think about.

Well, thats it.  I've contributed all I'm going to in regards to this mess.
Now that there is impetus to do more and better things, it will take time, as
I've gotten rusty.  Hell, who knows.  Maybe they're will be dunebuggies.  I
doubt it, considering the stain a certain GM left with user owned vehicles
before the 'Vacation A-go-go', but we'll see.  I wish a Merry Yule to you and

Smoke complained once about the new building... which was to be expected, as
smoke rarely does anything but complain about anything that happens that
doesnt directly benefit her.

Red spammed the list with caustic, childish nonsense that amounts to
accusations of favoritism.

Hmmmmm... well lesse here.... as of yet I have seen maybe one or two posts
from Red about his "rangers".  No posts to stories about what they're doing.
In point of fact, absolutely NOTHING in the way of story development and
nothing out of him about them otherwise but a few posts asking what kind of
nifty special things he might be allowed to give them to encourage them to
keep playing.

Contrarywise, I've seen quite a number of posts over the last few months from
people complaining that Morlith is a DR exclusive area that no one can reach
to play in, and a slew of stories recently from people who are working on this
New Hope area... not to mention quite a bit of discussion on the public
channel with Quinn about issues pertaining to that area.

So all in all, this looks to me like sour grapes about the fact that *gasp*
someone is doing something and *GASP* people are having fun actually
roleplaying here again without having to be coerced with the promise of new
toys or exclusive skills.

Pardon me while I toddle off to puke somewhere.  Sour grapes turn my stomach.
In the meantime, I may just have to bring Cerise back out of mothballs to
investigate New Hope.... being an anthropologist, that place sounds like she'd
love it.

One more thing. There are a lot of areas on the Ghostwheel grid that are
unused by players. It seems to me that these little digs are ment for one wiz.

    Seeing as everyone else has thrown their 2c in, I thought I'd join the
party with a few choice words for all statements involved.  Whee!
     First off, from a purely conceptual standpoint, I think NewHope is a
great idea.  A new complex for riders ICly disenfranchised with the mount
looking for change and interaction in a new setting and with new RPers can
only amount to good things, and I think the resulting tension between mount
riders/residents and complex residents will make for some highly enjoyable RP.
It'll certainly draw Cam out for more RP than he's previously been involved
in.
     With that said, I think comments were made by people working on the
NewHope residents were not representative of the ideals that the area was
being created for.  I'm sure there are both IC and OOC motivations for this
area being created, and I'm privy ... well, aware of them would be a better
word, but I don't know the details and would keep it that way if at all
possible.  NewHope represents an interesting and exciting new facet of RP for
this moo for not just the riders, but other classes too.  It's also a great
place to jump in and get involved if you are a newcomer to the moo, because
you don't have to deal with all the plot history for each class to become a
part of it.
      I think that people are focusing far too deeply on the motivations
behind this project rather than the project itself.  Regardless of how or why
it began, hard work is being put into making the area a great place to have
some fun, and I'm disappointed that more players can't seem to see it that way
and encourage development.  Cam lives on the mount, not as a rider, but as a
resident... and one of many, might I add.  He'll probably never move, but that
doesn't mean I'm any less interested as a player in its development and
flourishing.

I probably had a lot more to say, but that's enough to chew on for now.

Oh I fully agree that there are plenty of useless areas on this moo... areas
that are taking up DB space to no realy point.

However, I find it ludicrous that anyone would suggest that a new area that is
insipring roleplay be stifled and deemed a waste of DB space when there are
places like Toonsay Island (lovely, but utterly useless) and Dixie (the best
example of senseless building I've ever seen in my life) consuming resources.
And please... lets not start another war over whether or not dixie is well
built.  The opinions are evenly devided, lets leave it at that.  The question
is how many people ACTUALLY, ACTIVELY go there and use that area on a regular
basis?  I'd be willing to bet not many.  Same goes for New Gen city, though at
least that area is in the post apocolyptic theme.  And there are plenty of
other areas here that are taking up space and not being used mainly because
noone even knows they are there or how to find them.


Personally I'd love to see check points go down to 10 minutes or less.

I don't think I've been that impressed by immaturity on GW in months.

Red: It's not the MOO's business what went on behind the scenes to make the
new area. Even I don't know half of what you seem to be inferring, and quite
frankly, I DON'T CARE. Whatever the personal reasons, if any, that this area
was created are -not- public knowledge because *gasp* people have, for
whatever reason, chosen not to reveal them.
     Now, this could simply be because they don't want to give away secrets of
the coming plot. That's more than reasonable. That's expected. If, as GMs,
they gave away info about the plot, that'd be favoritism, and would ruin the
plot, eh?
     Taking it from the personal angle, let's stop and remember that the only
person on the MOO whose personal life you have a right to examine is your own.
What someone else does or doesn't do IRL isn't any of your business, and you
really have -no- right to talk about someone else's personal life publicly,
trying to make them look bad on a *list.
     You've had quite a few things done for your group, and GMs have helped
give your characters things in the past for whatever reason. Your group -does-
have special things that no one else has. Do people question it? Have they
complained? Have any of the people involved in this new project said, `Hey,
they don't need that. That's a waste of MOO resources because it doesn't
benefit everyone in the game!' Not that I'm aware of.

In general: This new area is sparking RP. That's good. I don't care who is mad
at who, what politics were involved -- that's -none- of my business, and even
less is it the business of the MOO as a whole. People are here to have fun,
chat with friends, and play a game. What a novel concept.
     Bringing players into behind the scenes politics is generally a `no-no'
from what I remember. Trying to scream favoritism and get all the players
hating a budding TP is really ridiculous, especially considering that special
considerations were given to Red's group as well. Why? BECAUSE RED'S GROUP IS
GOOD FOR RP. NEW HOPE IS GOOD FOR RP. No one group is better than the other.
     They're both doing something good for the MOO -- creating new
opportunities for players to have fun. I don't give half a damn -why- it
started. I'm just glad it's here, because in my mind, it's going to let more
people have the fun they come here for.

For people who aren't aware of NewHope's history, I originally titled it
simply 'The Complex' and primarily, that is how I refer to it now.

The Complex began months ago, originally the concept of both myself and
Bishamon.  Bish had other projects to get to, so I took it over, and yes I
reshaped it from the the getgo intentions.
I decided I wanted it to be some mysterious, huge, technological building
shrouded in mystery that had withstood the test of time.  More then that, I
gave it a rather large secret.  One I will not reveal here, because that would
spoil the fun of players ICly discovering it for themselves.
I consulted other GMs.  I posted to *GMs for input and left object #'s of my
creations there for inspection and comment.  I consulted with Quinn and with
other GMs for theme viability.  No one objected to it then.  In fact, they
supported me. (Special thanks to Mulder for supplying me with several facts
and tidbits of information.)
I then had the request that it be opened for players, specifically, a few
rogue riders.  Again, I consulted Quinn about it, and I personally sent mail
to Dragonbabe, as well as to *GMs regarding the entire thing.  She had no
qualms with it, unless she voiced them privately to other people.
So, you see this all came about for many different reasons, and had several
different concepts from it's original inception, from the first day Bish and I
first began building rooms.
I'm sorry this has to remain such a generic history of The Complex, but for
the sake of the IC world, I feel it would be in the best interest to leave it
like this.

from all races and all classes.  Anyone curious about it is encouraged to join
us all for the meeting tomorrow night.
I opened it prematurely so that they could proceed with a plot.  I am in the
process of allowing anyone to find and live in The Complex and I am hoping
that the roleplay that has begun there will continue.

And finally, it was a Player who ICly dubbed the Complex as 'NewHope', and
unless the IC residents choose to change the name for whatever reason, I have
a feeling the name will stick.

This being the holiday season, I'm almost forced to think about how insane
some toy concepts are.

I'm just going to randomly bitch for a minute about everyone's favorite
love-to-hate-her plastic princess Barbie.

Years ago, they made another doll like Barbie -- same company. They were
dressed like superheros. You'd open their legs, their arms would shoot up over
their heads, and they'd flash alot of cape. The box actually said: `Open my
legs to release my magical powers!'
     This prompted an entire chapter in a feminist book, apparently. It was
supposedly a `positive' thing, despite it's strangeness.

Now, years later... we have a new one out there. You've prolly all seen the
commercial. It's a `mermaid' doll. You squeeze it's crotch (no joke) and
bubbles fly out of the top of it's head.
     Why do I think this is going to have a chapter of it's own in a book
somewhere, but it's sure as hell not going to be positive?

It's the things like that in life I think are damned amusing. The fact that
people don't realize what in hell they're making is funny, but funnier still
are the people who freak out about it one way or the other.

The complex began as a kind of Jurassic Park area and as far as I'm concerned,
that's still what it is.  If riders want to perch there, fine.  They will not
be afforded any special favors, and they _will_ suffer for having left the
security and community of Mount Morlith.  Riders leaving the mount are
exposing themselves and their dragons to dangerous human bigotry, harsh and
exotic radiation, and the mental anguish associated with leaving such a
closely knit community.

For the record: I will not subsidize another mount.  If this area becomes
infested with hippie dragons, it'll be time to call in the national guard.
