Have you ever seen these men? Goatee, baseball hat, keeping company with the wall? Never leaving their comfort zone to blend with the smoky upheaval. Instead, they slide among the shadows, almost becoming invisible. Bored, the bartender refuses to pour you anymore so you decide to play a game of cat and mouse. Taking the coffee the good working man has provided you, touching it off with a nice splash of Yukon Jack from your silver flask, you weave between talking heads to the darkness of the wall. As you approach your pursuit of the evening, you realize your height has been pushed well over 6ft in the stiletto ensemble you choose to play in. The nose of the goatee being is inches away from your padded pushed up enhance cleavage. A small smile graces his shadowed lips, then he speaks. Horrified, reality slaps you in the face, a grave error has been made in the game. Intelligent conversation does not pour forth, only sexual under tones, bile, you feel it creeping as you look away, eyes seeking another kill. -------------------------- Message 1953 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Sun Mar 22 03:50:28 1998 EST From: Abe (#21180) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: 1952 -smoke awww.. did that happen to you, or someone you know? -------------------------- Message 1954 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Sun Mar 22 03:53:31 1998 EST From: Baltisaar (#10734) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: We need a good laugh, damnit. A little history: If you have ever been to a Sci-Fi convention, then you know what filking is. For those of you who haven't, filking is when a whole bunch of people get together on the second day of a Sci-Fi convention, usually late night/early morning, after partying hard as hell, drunk and staggering, and have a sing-along/singing talent show. Tom Smith is the current God of filk, IMHO. Known as "The Worlds Fastest Filker", Tom can usually come up with an extremely funny song on the spot. With that out of the way, please enjoy the following, entitled 'Operation Desert Storm'. ============================================================================ The land is burning and dry under hot desert skies. My gut is churning but you won't see fear in my eyes. Nothing to lose as I climb in and look to the roads, Then light the fuse of the cannon, which promptly explodes. The blast sends me skyward and into free fall, With one final thought as I head towards the wall -- I'll get that Road-Runner if it's the last thing I do. If Murphy's Laws are religion, I must be a saint. What else explains semis bursting from tunnels I paint? A thousand Rube Goldberg nightmares lie smashed in my garage -- How many falling pianos can that damn bird dodge? >From magnetic birdseed to dynamite darts, I could buy General Mills from what I spend on parts, But I'll get that road-runner if it's the last thing I do. I should forget it, he's not big enough for a stew. My line of credit with Acme is ten years past due. Got no insurance, I can't sign for claims with my paws. In vile durance for breaking most E.P.A. laws. But my super genius will deal with that dunce, Remember that I have to win only once, And I'll get him someday -- perhaps I should try something new. My canyon compactor was perfect to echo my screams. My backpack reactor worked fine, until I crossed the beams. My bomb extender snapped back with its lit T.N.T. My flying blender was just a tad quicker than me. But I'm smarter, I'm stronger, and he's only fast, Let's hear him "beep beep" with his head up his ass, And I'll get that Road-Runner if it's the last thing I do! (spoken) ... Eureka! That's it! There's many drinks you'll drink, me lads, on every world that's new. There's Saurian Brandy, Cran-Apple Schnapps, and a good old Tullamore Don't. There's Busch and Beck and Bud and Boch and others dark and pale, But I think you'll find the finest kind is Three-Oh-Seven Ale. (chorus) Three-Oh-Seven Ale, me lads, Three-Oh-Seven Ale, The finest drink that any bar has ever had for sale, It'll lay your whole damn world to waste, it'll make you fit and hale, There's nothing that you'll ever taste like Three-Oh-Seven Ale, me lads, Three-Oh-Seven Ale. It started out at M.I.T. one lazy summer day, When a couple of the frat-boy techies started in to play, They'd caught up on their schedule with a couple hours to kill, So they fitted up the cyclotron and made themselves a still. They added choice ingredients to brew a little brew, But they didn't know the wires were crossed in Chamber Number Two. A tiny bit of space got folded, things were looking queer -- They turned the spout and then came out the world's first Hyper-Beer. It bubbled and it burbled and it glowed a fizzly green, And what it did to test equipment, frankly, was obscene. It took awhile to find a vial it wouldn't burst to flame, Then they measured out its potency, and that's how it was named. There's many drinks you'll drink, me lads, but this one beats them all: One hundred fifty-three and one-half percent alcohol, A beer, brewed in a tesseract, that'll shoot you through the roof -- And if you don't believe me, I've got lots and lots of proof. (final chorus) Three-Oh-Seven Ale, me lads, Three-Oh-Seven Ale, The finest drink that any bar has ever had for sale, It'll lay your whole damn world to waste, it'll make you fit and hale, It sticks to your mouth like library paste, With a stronger kick than toxic waste, There's nothing that you'll ever taste Like Three-Oh-Seven Ale! - 307 Ale Tom Smith -------------------------- Message 1970 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Sun Mar 22 13:07:34 1998 EST From: Red_Fang (#5907) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: babies Well, Rathe its like this ya see.. This one is for Rathe. :) Death of Time We never have ruled this world, my friends... Tho' at ownership we lie... No... Do not be fooled... This world is men's while the sun is in the sky... We are all unmade by that burning bane, Still, a broken blade can inflict no pain... If its light should fade, only we shall reign. And the blood will n'er run dry... Thus I swear the sun shall die! For a thousand times a thousand years, our kind has ruled the night. Forbidden crimes and primal fears have given us our might. Yet those who hate us know, know that they need only wait, for the dawn's first ray... To escape their fate for another day... Defended by its light... I SAY THAT ENDS TONIGHT!!! Who should care if they if have the day? Hey! For the life eternal! Oh! By night we hunt, and they're our prey... Ho! For the death of time! Let them rage at the life we lead! Hey! For the life eternal! Oh! Beneath the sun, they age and bleed! Ho! For the death of time! Our weakness is the key, my friends, the light we so despise... We've had eternity, my friends, in darkness to grow wise... Our flesh is cold, and theirs is hot, but if we hold while they do not, we don't grow old, but the humans rot before each other's eyes... For they see each sunrise... Douse that light and we'll stop the clock. Hey! For the life eternal! Oh! Endless night and deathless stock! Ho! For the death of time! And when the darkness fills the sky... Hey! For the life eternal! Oh! We'll sieze the world and bleed it dry! Ho! For the death of time! Hey! For the humans funeral bell! Hey! For the sound of the final knell! Hey now listen and my plan I'll tell... The death and dooming of the sun is not an easy task. The gods by whom the world is run have prices they will ask. No wealth or tool could you purloin, their hearts are cruel for a different coin. The living jewel from a goddess' loin... Will buy for us the sun... I know of such a one! Each beating of her hearts a note in a symphony of power. I'll take her mind and love and throat, and pluck her like a flower. And when its done, and her heart is tame... The magic one in her mother's name... Will snuff the sun like a candle flame... Let that darkness be her dow'r... And oh... How the blood will... Shower! Such a mate, I vow to wed. Hey! For the life eternal! Oh! Celebrate with a river of red! Hey! For the life eternal! Oh! Tourmaline will prove her worth... Hey! For the life eternal! Oh! The undead queen of a broken earth! Ho! For the death of time! Hey! For the humans funeral bell! Hey! For the sound of the final knell! Hey! For the sun being blown to... Hell! Sing! Ho for the death! Ho for the death! Ho! for the death of tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiime! Ho! For the death of time! -The Death of Time -Tom Smith P.S.-I know Rathe isn't a vampire... I don't care if you go ooc and idle, what I don't like is the interruption of my pretend world, to be brought rudely back to reality when I do not feel like dealing with it. B) If you want to not hear someone who's OOC, @gag them if they 'interrupt' anything. If your mental/RP state i that fragile, you should be in a hospital, not on a MOO I really think most of us know my mental state is not fragile Kzin, and I really don't think you want to go there. Perhaps you should think twice before posting such a statement. C) What the hell's it matter? Since you can't attack or be attacked by a OOC person, there isn't REALLY a big deal. sheesh There are all kinds of attacking Kzin, interrupting with rude remarks is attacking while I'm ic. If you want to judge me, then you page me, when I am done playing I will be more then happy to go rounds with you oocly. Otherwise post your comments and judgments about me or the char's I play to chat or ideas or what ever other post you can find to server your needs. This is all I have to say on this subject, if you just want to argue Kzin you can page me. -------------------------- Message 2008 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Tue Mar 24 02:40:36 1998 EST From: Rathe (#14172) To: *Chat (#5391) More SHUT THE FUCK UP, please. Look, about this whole Smoke/Kzin argument and many similar arguments... can't we keep it out of the public forum? I mean, sure, someone says something particularly nasty about you and you have the right to publicly clear that up... but if we're just going to have petty 7-year-old arguments, take it elsewhere. Smoke herself encouraged Kzin to page her if he had a problem -- well, we've got @page and we've got moomail. Make use of those private venues for problems. I've seen a lot of MOO-related circles break up because of personal attacks and immaturity. I've had more than one or two of those attacks aimed at me, in the public eye. It's painful, and sad, and if pisses me off... but the time comes when you have to grow-up, bite back some not-so-nice language, and roll with the punches. Just because many of us come here to 'escape' RL doesn't mean we need to abandon RL manners and sensibilities. People get hurt this way, folks. I don't particular enjoy reading Smoke's rants or any other stab/jabbing that goes on OOCly. As a member of this community -- a very involved member who cares about a great many of you -- I set forth my request that private/personal problems be handled on a private/personal scale. -Jess -------------------------- Message 2013 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Tue Mar 24 10:53:40 1998 EST From: Red_Fang (#5907) To: *Chat (#5391) Julian did ya press details?? A wonderfully cosmopolitan city of approximately 3 million. There's plenty to do here...and yes, we even have a beach. :) Things I'd like to share with y'all: Paramount Canada's Wonderland. Wet and Wild Water Park. Various Clubs or Pubs. Drinking Age is 19 here. Sega City - a megahouse of an arcade with wall climbing, go karting, baseball thingies where you get the ball whipped at you by a machine... Malls (For the girls) Pool Halls (So I can kick some ass) Cosmic Bowling (Bowling in the dark with glowing balls and music) Harbourfront and the Beach. Centre Island - can catch the Air Show depending on when it's scheduled for. Went last year and saw the Stealth etc. Best friend went the year before and saw a plane crash. Think guys are more into this. Canadian Bacon - which is called Peameal Bacon here! Canadian Beer and Mike's Hard Lemonade. I think I'll stop now before I spam too much. There's tons to do really...summers are always fun. I can try to accomodate as many people as possible in my condo - Did I mention that my bathtub is a jacuzzi? *laugh* In my building alone, we could do the hot tub, indoor outdoor pool, billiards, bowling, tennis, racketball etc crap. Hell half the time I hang out there ICly and chat OOCly until roleplay comes along. Other reasons include Wanting to spend a few moments of my limited time speaking to someone whos grasp of the english language extends beyond "momma, dadda, more, that, and No" (granted my son has a few more words in his vocabulary but at 18 months he can hardly be expected to form coherent sentences and hold intelligent conversations). Personally I don't see how my OOC presence in the Round Room is disruptive to anything at all. I avoid chatting OOCly when there is anyone ICly in the room actually roleplaying... and if there isn't anyone IC around who the fuck cares if a few people who like each other OOCly but who's characters are likely to be unpleasant to one another ICly would rather sit around and shoot the shit for a bit instead of going IC and either verbally abusing, physically attacking, or studiously ignoring each other? Another thing is a couple of the people I like to chat with ARE NPC's and *can't* just @go ooc to chat. Hell the other day we were all sitting around in one of the scrabble rooms chatting and watching a couple people play and someone had to bring on an alt to bring Rand's unconcious NPC self into the OOC area so he could join us. We don't ALWAYS hang around OOCly in IC areas, however there are very good reasons (to many of us) to do so from time to time. -------------------------- Message 2072 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Thu Mar 26 08:32:36 1998 EST From: Tarla (#18104) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: Addendum Hanging around ICly or OOCly in the round room chatting beats the HELL out of sitting around, alone, bored out of your mind, ICly in the Lounge waiting for someone else to get the ICbug and happen to join you. There's only so much RP you can do at an unattended bartender. RP generally implies feedback of some sort coming from somewhere... and "Oz, gimme a beer", "You got it", doesn't exactly qualify. -------------------------- Message 2073 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Thu Mar 26 10:36:42 1998 EST From: Theseus (#23542) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: Hooray Hooray for new phones being turned on ;) -------------------------- Message 2074 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Thu Mar 26 12:46:55 1998 EST From: Mercury (#16576) To: *Chat (#5391) Maybe people would hang around ICly in IC places if there were some plots going on or something more than get toys, then hunt, then spar. -------------------------- Message 2075 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Thu Mar 26 14:33:22 1998 EST From: Darius_Lee (#10280) To: *Chat (#5391) Heheh, Kzin and I will hang around ICly in the lounge but no one likes to see that... Actually, if I were to add a Michael Jackson reference to that list I think it would have to be something related to the Jackson Five cartoon. How many of you remember THAT? And here's another one that I remember vividly yet I have never found anyone else who does.... a cartoon named "The Oddball Couple". It's theme song went "The oddball couple are a couple of a couple of oddballs..." and the opening scene featured a couple of cartoon dogs running down a beach being chased by a huge 8 ball. And then there are ones like the "Super Friends" and "SpaceGhost" and "Thundar the Barbarian" with Ooklah the Maak and that sorceress princess. And G-Force the first time around... Star Blazers... and gods how many other ancient esoteric little known cartoons can I name that I miss the hell out of?
