Ok, here it goes. I don't think game balance has anything to do with the amount of toys or stats in the game. Seems rp is lacking not from balance but from lack of interest in the storyline. Only storyline that is remotely continuing is the dragonriders and the Sarkus of Morlith.. Why? What happened to the Subbies? What happened to the good ol days! Mages are numerous, but the storyline behind them is lacking.. What happened? The magus's gave up and ran off. No control on the class. No one icly there to say hey, this is the history follow it or you'll turn into a toad. I tell ya, if it wasn't for Morlith we'd have nothing to do around here.. Of course I am guilty too.. but can't carry the whole world on my shoulders.. Red was the history around here for nearly 2 years.. Had to pass the baton at some point. This is my opinion and no way reflects the staff of gw or god.. There are the powerful mages who tend to bend towards evil but there are no player to counter act against them, hence, the balance of the moo is total off. In a world such as this, don't you think normal humans would survive? This world seems to be rampant with mages and fantasy, those who wish to play regular people have no chance in hell. If this is the world that we all know where are all the relics of war? Where are the tanks, grenade launchers, machine guns? Where are the military establishments? All of this couldn't have been lost. Humans naturally have an instinct to survive. By now they should have returned to claim what is theirs, but instead they are forced to submit to the power of coded and non coded spells, flying lizards and idiots who have no concept of roleplaying. I really would like to see some kind of Mad Max type of char's, people who create armor, weapons and machinery from old military items. Who rule the wasteland and have the knowledge, balls and a little wiz support to fight against the freaks who seem to run the world now. -------------------------- Message 626 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Wed Dec 17 13:26:09 1997 EST From: Kzin (#5800) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: Heh Well, Kzin now TECHNICALLY runs the wastelands.... Mad Max wasn't military, nor did he use military leftovers...everything was pretty much civilian. It's feudalistic at best. Even the corporations are that way. The corporations hold onto most of the old tech-knowledge, lest it spread and get out of hand -again-, this time by the will of petty tyrants, rather than petty governments. There ARE a few machine guns, and VERY few laser pistols. Most armaments are on the Soulmechs And as for ammunition....that's another problem. It -does- decay, caseless ammo or regular. There is no longer the economy, technology, educational system, or even enough PATRONS to support people wandering around claiming they can 'unlock' the secret to gunpowder and high tech weaponry, if they ONLY hada few hundred thousand crystals There are a few technologically educated people. But generally technological knowledge doesn't involve how to build every tool or machine needed for each step of a process. Even if you are a master at it. -------------------------- Message 630 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Wed Dec 17 13:43:11 1997 EST From: Ylaerin (#16541) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: Technological stuffies... All that's true, Kzin... but really, I've seen _plenty_ of people around with shotguns, etc.. and our beloved Rathe never seems to be low on ammo. ;) So maybe that's the fault of players who aren't RPing 'exactly' as they should; but then again, if the technology is rare or 'lost', then we wouldn't have GM created techno weapons. Even if this *is* a feudalistic society, think about your history - Gun powder is currently centuries upon centuries old. And as players in this world we have a pretty fair amount of literature, etc. available on stuff like that. I really don't think it's all that far out of the question - and even if there were someone who couldn't ICly do it (any of my chars comes to mind :P), someone can always be found, for the right price, who can do things of that nature. {This is also a world where people are bought and sold like so much fruit at a market. ;)} -Jess, with what is probably a totally whacked point. -------------------------- Message 631 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Wed Dec 17 13:50:01 1997 EST From: Kzin (#5800) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: The points needing making Most people who learn to make bullets inthe 'modern' future would be totally unable to duplicate the machines or processes used if thier tools were taken away. Technology is not realy rare or lost. It's regulated. Part of the point/existance of Maguses ICly is to balance out the power of technology, mages, dragons, anything. They keep balance, and that involves making sure technology doesn't go in certain directions again. Relics do exist. NGC for example. But the robots there would take BADLY to you trying to take pieces of the city to make your car or laser cannon Knowledge is precious. Dakirion does Recombs. Because they ahve that knowledge, and keep it locked away, generally. As for players in the world, having literture, etc. Not neccisarily. Before the war, if NGC is any example, most things had become automated. There would always be the 'stashes' of books, but paper, even with our current low-danger inks, eventually dissolves, and the ink has a acid level in it that eats and weakens the paper, especially if it's been touched/read. Shotguns, other guns: The ammunition is generally relics of post-war surivors, militia groups, and the like. Kilmor also might be the source of such low-tech high-price itemry as shotgun ammunition. The corporations arent percieved as a 'threat' here generally. Especially after Austin was 'nuked'. People, some people would not lose their knowledge. Things are passed down from generation go generation. Look at the American Indians or any culture who do not really document in writing. Their knowledge is passed down through story telling and teaching within their tribes. Or at least it used to be. People would band together, they would never stop learning. Nor would their will to survive vanish. They would do anything and everything to live and restore life as it once was. They would have a goal, through the teachings of the elders they would learn of the life that was before. They would want to reach for that. Of course they would be considered outlaws, perhaps even sought after by those who hold the old knowledge. But to pretend this would never happen is ludicrous and shows lack of imagination. -------------------------- Message 633 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Wed Dec 17 14:11:19 1997 EST From: Kzin (#5800) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: Heh Notice wha you yourself said: How they USED to pass such knowledge down. They might worship a TV screen and search for the holy remote control, in hopes it would help bring back the God called Letterman :P But they also might have some really primitive guns, and not much ammo for them either. Maybe armor made out of pieces of wrecked vehicles and billboards. *Can see "Eat here" across the groinplate of someone's armor* Anyhow. Power comes not from stats, power comes from organization. Technology feeds on organization. There will always be tinkerers, and there will always be organizations which seek to gain power. The former will feed off the later to develop things. It's the way its always been. It's the way it always will be. Granted, Bob Gadgetman working in his shack in the wasteland probably won't be developing fussion generators or particle beam weapons any time soon, but that doesn't stop him from putting together a desert-scavenger vehicle, or dune-buggy. As for ruling the wasteland with a penchant for bending forks...thats a LOT of under-estimation to the power level of things. A mage with some tech learning could be hell in high heels. (Coreen!) A tinker with a sense of history might very well hide his inventions, creating a clever facade to keep others from abusing the knowledge and power of his creations. Plate mail, chain, football pads, shields (be they classic or signs) were made by someone. Ammo doesn't decay because we don't have code for it (tho we should). Technology has to be reclaimed. At LEAST in the areas we have built right now. We are playing in a blast zone. As Mulder said, there are other areas that may not have been so hard hit. As for SoulMechs, alot of what they use/have came from military installations and alien caches. And you better believe they work hard to keep it fixed. What happened to the Tech Order? Ok, this is one of them reminising posts.. with all the bad spelling. Looking back over time if often more distructive to the soul than useful at times.. But often with the bad comes a overwhelming good that it far out weighs anything else. In 1992 I traded my ol C64 in for my first PC a 386 20mhz system with a 130 meg hard drive and 4 meg of ram.. Wow, what a system. With its 2400 baud modem I got connected to a few local BBS's and eventually found Delphi a internet provider. Then come March of 93, I and my stupidity decided to be mister motorcycle and the second time on a bike went off a cliff breaking both my legs and 5 vertibre in my back and a few ribs. Bad.. BUT! I with nothing much to do got online more often and met up with my best friends John and Lenny. We ruled the net. That was a very lucky year. Then in 1994, illness and other things caused me more home time, but my online friends made exploring the world more possible, and a special bonus was when Lenny and his now wife Jeannie moved to Albuquerque. We fastly became great friends and I will always remember our times together fondly. That was a wonderful year.. Also at that time I switched providers to a much cheaper one and moved full bore into MOOING! *grins* Also at this time I met more dear friends, my close friend who you all know as Yjezra aka Dragonbabe.. We met in Feburary of 1995 in rl and that was a special and wonderful moment.. It was also the beginning of an adventure that would continue for me. Through 1995, things grew more and more interesting. Lenny and I worked at the same place and work was fun and enjoyable to go to. We had some down times but because of a true friendship we found a common ground and prevailed through our troubles only to cause greater troubles for others! *chuckles* In October of 1995 I met up with a girl who I thought was that one true love. Tempest. Through the next year we had a wonderful relationship. I will hold that in my heart forever though I had to let it go.. In Febuary of 1996 Lenny was fired from the job we worked at and two days later I walked out on those idiots. That was the straw that broke the camels back.. Things where very tough but again my friends online carried me through it. That year seemed to turn from bad to terrible for me, but then in December of 1996 I was privledged enough to go east for the first time in my life and meet John aka Moonheart for the first time after knowing him for so long online.. And for a added bonus I was very lucky to meet a group of the best people that live on this planet.. I met Kynwal, Axelle, Spiral, Ed, Slayer, Samaul, Eppy, Nigel, Nigels friend, and my very special Little One Darius Lee, also Lykaj and Eve came down and a special appearance by Osbornn aka (Andy, Moonhearts rl Brother) WE spent the best New Years that I'd experienced in at least a year. Only saying that because somethign very special happened the previous year.. But thats another story. Oh, and Spiral's rl boyfriend Brian, and almost forgot Morrigan too. Hope I didn't forget anyone.. Anyhow that is how I began this year, 1997. With a group of wonderful friends that if it wasn't for bad things previously happening to me I might not of met. The year 1997 wasn't that great.. Mom got sick in March and by May we found she had cancer.. Life seemed to of dropped out the bottem. But we prevailed again.. In August of this year I got to go back east again and we all went south to NC for a wonderful time in the sun.. And I got to meet another special friend.. Mrs Jamie Fang. This girl can party.. She is pretty cool all in all even if she is a Freak. I returned home to find out that mom's chemo hadn't done anything to her cancer and we grew very black mooded.. But hope came through and the doc's re-examined her tests and she is on a new treatment and doing well.. So even that has a bright side. I am very lucky indeed to have you all as my friends.. I count my blessings every day for you. Then just a few months ago I was very honored to meet another very good friend.. Kzin himself came down for a visit.. He is a wonderful kid. I enjoyed his company very much. And, they say things come full circle. And this weekend I am going out to Tucson to see Yjezra again. And I know in 1998 that I will meet more of you.. I am sure moo bashes or just adventures will let our paths cross.. Thank you all for being.. Love you all and Happy Holidays, Winter Sol is just around the corner for us pagans, then that Christain thing for them folks, and that jewish thing for them folks.. won't attempt to spell that one.. No. Does it mean that someone with no stats at all is going to be able to hit them? No. Does it mean that the people who don't spar will do better in combat? Probably not. What it does mean is that it does, indeed, suck, when you see 10 attacks pop up in front of you, all of them firing off before you have time to even type 'flee' or 'kill ' or 'kill , then 'The Midrealm.' Especially with the new death penalties that are being imposed. You know when this sucks the worst? When you could have done something about it if you had been able to type out the command. Personally, I think the combat round wait really would take alot of coding to be fair and useful. The problem is, mainly, magic. With the round wait, from what I can see, it just means either A: People get to run around without us getting a automatic free very dangerous attack to thier back. Or B:Anyone with a twinky trigger/whatever to flee or go OOC when someone 'special' enters gets a LOT more time to twinkout. The optimal solution would be magic stacking disabled, except on spells like glare or restore, which are really, as such, not much of a spell as a ability. Since queing is a OOC action, leave it be.....following is impossible enough as it is,, with the 'abandon/loose/whatever' command automatically suceeding, and people able to escape by ultra-fast typing as well, due to the follow-lag. Thank you. -Spiral. -------------------------- Message 711 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Mon Dec 22 16:43:03 1997 EST From: Spiral (#20542) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: Containers... Containers have been sorted through, and items have been removed from misleadingly messaged containers. You had a week's warning to fix these messages. Do not harass the staff for your items to be returned. If you feel this has happened in error, page Spiral and explain -politely- why you feel that your container was justified. As sufficient warning was given, this seems reasonable. Swearing, insults, and screaming, as well as threats will result in your request possibly not being handled at all. -me. -------------------------- Message 712 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Mon Dec 22 18:51:34 1997 EST From: Clayson (#17237) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: moving tents Ok you little morons, stop moving my tent.
