What happens after those 7 days is that any 'toy' or 'special' items in those misleadingly messaged containers will be yanked out of play until it is redistributed to the MOO. I've actually kind of wondered when the religious groups are going to get off of this Fantasy RP kick of theirs... Given that the Catholic church took over 200 years to appologize to Gallileo...it probably won't be real soon, but... If you look at the data (I did when I was in high-school) you get some strange figures. At the time I studied the matter, there were 13 cases where a violent crime could definately be linked to a fantasy rpg (AD&D (R)). Mind you that the 'definite links' in question are made without qualifications. Comparing this number to the number of people who actually played AD&D (R) at that time (taken from TSR's total sales of the product), the violent crime rate among role-players was significantly lower than the national average (less than 10% of it if I remember correctly). Role play has been demonstrated as an effective way for many people to relieve outside stress that they may not have a normal outlet for, and that role-players demographically tend to be fairly stable with a healthy level of eccentricty. (It has been demonstrated that eccentrics live 5-10 years longer on average). This all leads to the single most important, but generally overlooked, PRiNCIPLE OF TEEN SATANISM : the "Law of Scapegoating" Namely, rather than deal with an actual problem, let's pick on an innocuous minority activity. ;) -------------------------- Message 600 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Tue Dec 16 07:35:54 1997 EST From: Lykaj (#6068) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: You forgot one spiral. Statistics can be configured to pretty much say whatever you WANT them to say. (My Psychology professor in college actually confessed to that and he was teaching my Research methods class.) Hence, trusting statistics can lead many astray. What one needs to do in order to spot false accusations within a study is to adequetely look at the study itself, which sadly most cannot do, due to lack of education to do so, or more often, the lack of information provided in the media to allow the everyday consumer to critically examine the study for themselves. As for all this talk about roleplaying games and violence and even TV and violence leading to violent behavior, it's a bunch of bullshit. No child was directly influenced by that to do a crime or act in a strange manner, something ELSE was behind it in the first place to cause the disturbance. Violence on TV or roleplaying games may influence, but they rarely ever, if ever, cause. -------------------------- Message 604 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Tue Dec 16 18:35:21 1997 EST From: Augustus (#18463) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: Re: Statistics and the like. I think fatigue should be VERY MINIMAL, however, unless someone's stacking like 4 sets of armor. Honestly, I don't think it's worth the trouble of code, and I think it'd be hard to implement in a fair way for all. Stacking armor should be SEVERELY limited.. I.e. no poly upon plate upon chain mail (which is already not possible).. I like the idea of having robes over normal armor, and it really isn't unrealistic. PLEASE don't change this, it's cool as it is. Oh yeah, I agree with Rathe, riot shields are lame when not usable over other armor seeing as it's really a SHIELD and not a piece of clothing.
