Good point, but why is that?? FLY's are scared of big humans so they don't just stand there in defiance! Thats one of the main points here.. How do you code brains on $players? Kinda hard isn't it.. A fly don't have much for a brain but it knows if it stands there it will be smashed. Most $players go up on the Helipad, go Oh wow a dragon! Lets kill it! *chuckles* Of course not many at all show the actual excitement or fear or awe that a person would feel upon this encounter.. Is it human ignorance or arrogance? People refused to rp this so stats on dragons climbed and climbed.. So who's fault was it?? No, not the DragonBabes.. In the game theme it tells how the dragons came back to help the humans.. Maybe they shouldn't of.. They just became targets.. Back to that fly, now even if it did stand there.... What is it going to do?? Buzz ya to death? *chuckles* Sure it might land on ya and give you a cold.. maybe a nasty enough effection to go to the doctor.. Hmm.. Maybe if your really poor on the hygene thing it might lay its eggs on ya and you'll wake up with a mess of maggots in your lap.. ICK! Back to dragons and Mech's.. If people rp'd they where big big strong beasties then maybe things would of been differant. Sure ya could kill a dragon, but it would be costly wouldn't you think? If you went up against a bear in rl with a shotgun you are lible to just piss it off.. In reality shotguns do not have the penetration they do here.. No rifling in them, most shotguns have a very low powder charge.. sure it will mess up a person at close range.. I use to shoot watermellons with my cousin, was alot of fun. You still had to be within 10 feet to get it to go boom! Ever go duck hunting?? If shotguns where so effective I think we'd be out of ducks.. Fact is most duck hunters come home duckless.. Why? Your shooting a mess of pellets up into the air from a gun that has no rifling and a low powder charge. depending on the range of the shot the pellets spread out considerably.. after 10 feet the pattern spreads over a yard, 20 feet it gets worse.. So if you do finally get to the duck only maybe 5% of the pellets might hit the duck, which is moving along and then you gotta hit a vital.. Ok, enough of that.. Realism sucks though.. And I think its been shown that $players don't rightly know what realism would be when meeting up with a dragon :) Ok, I ranted on and on.. enough said I say.. Here goes Awe/Fear: The character I play had his life shattered by dragons driven mad by the corruption of the sarkus In Embryon's early days. Any friends, 'family', and the like he had were taken away from him in a gigantic slaughter. Now.. There are two ways someone might respond to such an event. They could block it out (as Rathe did for a long time.. Anybody remember the old, nice, Rathe who playeda #$!* flute?), they could live their lives in mortal fear of any dragons, or, they can respond with rage, anger, violence. When dealing with my character, DRs, don't think I'm trying to destroy your toy, or I have anything against you OOCly. Before you cry twink, remember that for this particular character, madness far supercedes any awe or fear he might feel :) Secondly, flies and humans.. You ever see the movie Dragon heart? Or Dragonheart, or whatever/however you spell the bloody movie. Reguardless, if you saw the movie you remember the knight dragonslayer. It wasn't easy for him, obviously, but with normal armor and a unmagical sword, he managed (along with others of his 'profession') to slay all but one of the world's dragons. I realize that GW dragons may be larger than those in the aforementioned movie, but I would then turn your attention to the series of "Dragonlance" books. In these books, the dragons were large, quite terrible, and near invincible.. /But/ with the proper weapons, a bit of luck, they could be destroyed. Unlike the dragons here, who are nearly invincible. The garnets, for instance, have armor that I am quite sure no existing weapon can penetrate. And 90% of the dragons have breath weapons that can kill someone with one shot to the head. Reguardless of armor. Dragons never miss, cannot be dodged, cannot be avoided. One hit, with a breath weapon or perhaps teeth/claws, and you're down. Bye bye. Dead dragonslayer. I can see Yshar's "Well don't screw with dragons, then..." post coming a mile away. So I will say it again--NO FORCE ON GHOSTWHEEL SHOULD BE INVINCIBLE. Not me, not dragons, not soulmechs, not you, not the eccentric door to door fridge salesman who lives next door. I will make the sugggestion many people have made before me: Make dragons mortal. Make them return from the eagle. Make them reasonable, and make them subject to the same penalties humans face at death. Rathe has a valid point, but seeing one dragonslayer's point and reducing dragons down to a level where said dragonslayer could take it by chance alone.. What the hell is this Yshar? We have lived with the dragons day in and day out, why the hell would we be in awe of them. That would be like me looking at the sky everyday when a plane flies over and bow down. Fuck you. Coded dragon awe is total shit. If you can't RP how awesome the dragon is to someone (even with some OOC paging describing particulars that text would not be able to get across), then deal with it that your dragon ain't inspiring fear in someone. Don't default to code just because your crack puppet might be in danger from crack players. -------------------------- Message 529 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Thu Dec 4 22:58:30 1997 EST From: Yshar (#12217) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: Dexter? That's what it says in the docs. If you can't RP out how awesome your dragon is OR the fact that OOC knowledge warns people that dragons are asskickers and they chose to ignore it, deal with it. This place is a fantasy MOO about people who kill and spar for a living. They are bound to have built up enough balls (metaphorical ones for womyn) to not fear too much. -------------------------- Message 531 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Thu Dec 4 23:03:46 1997 EST From: Yshar (#12217) To: *Chat (#5391) So, let it be coded. I would love to see it,I'm sure other Riders would too. Dragons are big, powerful, awe-inspiring (hint hint). First, I agree with Styx, smack 'em around if they aren't in awe. I also agree with Dexter. RP it, dammit. And you know what? No one's RP is any more or less valid than anyone else's. For example: I play Rayne as being utterly terrified of dragons. Good ones, bad ones, she thinks they are gonna eat her. Now, granted, no normal dragon ever would. They'd most likely be slightly indignant, confused, or horribly amused by that fact. She passed clean out the first time she saw one, and refuses to go within 100 feet of them, 'cause she's utterly terrified of them. She even got married to insure that she wasn't a virgin (in her mind sex before marriage was a big no no), SPECIFICALLY for the fact that she's convinced that dragons won't eat her if she's no longer a virgin. I also play Seraph, who is remarkably unimpressed by much of anything. She doesn't like the living dragons. She doesn't hate them, but she finds them distasteful in a way, because she speaks with the dead during their afterlife. As dragons go poof then, she has next to no interest in them. The undead dragons, however, she finds utterly fascinating. Also, please do bear in mind that if a dragon is swinging their tail at her, she's going to be utterly unsettled. That's immediate danger. It's the same kind of fear as when the chim fireballs her, though somewhat moreso due to the scale involved. Now, granted, that's -immediate danger-. Just walking by and seeing a dragon, she won't suddenly cower. She just -won't-. Call it an excess of drugs in her system, call it self destructive tendencies, call it what you want. She's not scared of them just -being- there. Being someone in tune with mythos and such, and constantly hearing how kind and gentle and nonviolent dragons are, why should she be? Oooh, it's big. Ooh, it's just sitting there. Scary. That's just the way she thinks. Now, back to my original point. People here play characters. Some don't rationally accept dragons as what they are (Rayne) and others are honestly just that apathetic (Seraph). If you can't RP it, then don't claim you have it. Remember all those posts about not being able to take Seduction as a skill? Why? Because you have to RP it. Awe, Intimidation, etc. all work the same way. Should I ask someone to code seduction? No. Why? Because it doesn't give people the chance to respond how their character would. Some characters just DON'T react the way you expect. You can't force them to, because your RP is no more or less valid than theirs. If their reason is stupid, well, maybe you have a right to be annoyed. But hell, I have people with flat 0 stats dodging hits from my more high-statted characters in uncoded combat. Annoying, yes. Feasible? Probably not. BUT. I deal with it. Why? Because it's RP. Now, before anyone goes off saying that intimidation never works, think about this: Far more than once, I have been easily able to scare the hell out of someone with emotes of merely drawing a blade and walking close to them, or similar things. I don't usually use coded combat, because I feel the emotes are more interesting (despite happy fun combat messages.) Think about it... you play someone who doesn't like to be messed with, and yet finds violence distasteful. You intimidate your way out of it, and use combat as a last resort if not left alone. That's what I do with Seraph. Does she suddenly sound like any dragons you all know? Thought so. Make dragons more buff? bullshit, they're already walking battle tanks with wings as it is, and with long ranged armor piercing weaponry to boot. You want to make something more tough? then think of something else. god this is getting old. I log on to 10000 posts to *chat about "I can't kill a dragon, so I'm gonna complain because they are more of a challenge than i want them to be." Rathe, you said trying to kill a dragon was a challenge.. so why are you complaining when you can't kill one EASILY? I dunno what to say.. Dragons shouldn't be feared if you don't want to, and you can't force RP into someone, that's not what GhostMOO is about. Snow, snowshoes.. get the pic?. Anyways.. today.. we flew. But no work. Buzzed down an oxbow river with these huge sandbars. It was damn foggy so we had to fly under 100'. We went sightseeing pretty much. Saw a half dozen bald eagles. A bull moose and a cow with 2 calves. But! The best part was seeing a pack of wolves relaxing on a huge sandbar along the river. We circled them a few times, dropping down probably with 20-30 feet of them, 5 of them. Hope the pics turn out ( was cold and the windows were fogging up ). Sometimes work doesnt suck.
